Songs you never knew were cover versions!!

I love Madness, but I didn't realise until recently that "It must be love" wasn't their song! The original version was done by Labi Siffre in the early seventies and I think I actually like the original even better . Anyone got any others?

I like covers that sound like original songs. (Let's Get) Physical by Revolting Cocks isn't the easiest listen, but it sounds nowt like the Olivia Newton John song.

I prefer the Madness version tbh.

I only recently discovered that the Four Tops' 'Walk Away Renée' was a cover.

I think the UB40 version of that is on the album Labours Of Love. If they did that to a song they love just imagine how much of an abomination a song they were ambivalent about would sound.

There are a couple of Pink Floyd covers I prefer to the originals: Comfortably Numb by Scissor Sisters, and Astronomy Domine by Voivod. It's like they take the lyrics and write new songs to fit their style. Two more different styles could not be imagined. Gay disco of Scissor Sisters versus the progressive jazzpunk/proto thrash metal of Voivod.

DH heard the vibrators version of I kissed a girl & thought katy perry had done the cover version! I actually think the vibrators version is better. sorry for lack of capitals, dog asleep on my lap so typing one handed
