Decent Christmas music - is it possible?

I am looking to download a Christmas album but would like some advice.

I have bought Christmas CDs before and they are all either:

Cliff Richard/Mariah Carey type nasties, or

Very highbrow choral stuff.

Here is what I would like:

Proper traditional Christmas carols sung well but in a non-classical way by unpretentious voices in a church/formal setting.

I don't object to the odd tasteful "modern" number but cannot stand another dose of "Rockin' Robin" or that knicker clenchingly awful "All I want for Christmas is yooooooooooooooooou".

Really. Please help. TIA.

So sorry for sounding so miserable. I just want some proper music (imho).

I think the Salvation Army do CDs, that might be up your street? I think they have singing plus the band, but not really sure.

I would say Carols from King's or Carols from Clare (which has some a bit less well known carols but is lovely) but I guess those might be too "classical" and choral for you?

If you have got Spotify you could search and listen to these (if they're on there - I'm pretty sure the second two are at least), or look for ones on Amazon with samples, to try before you buy.

My childish side indulges in a website called the Yogscast.Xmas Blush

They have a youtube vid with this piece by an independant composer.

Note: I have no association with Jamie Soar.

Just think it's a nice different christmassy tune
