i love you for this thread!

James D Bradfield has always grated me up the wrong way, and yes, that cover makes me weep too

upahill · 31/10/2011 14:17

I've always had a thing for Nicky Wire.

upahill · 31/10/2011 14:42

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/images/B005ES40Z4/ref=dp_image_z_0?ie=UTF8&n=229816&s=music

I'm not sure what is up with it.

I@m sure the penny will drop when it is explained

tooearlymustdache · 31/10/2011 14:53

upahill

it's the downright ear-bleedingly shit cover of the most magnificent 'This is the Day' by The The

openerofjars · 31/10/2011 14:55

Upahill: Hands off!

He is lovely, though...

Timeshare?

upahill · 31/10/2011 14:57

AhHHHHH ! {slaps forehead}

I'm with you !!!!

upahill · 31/10/2011 19:38

I have spent the afternoon laughing at my dimness!!!!!

JoinTheDots · 31/10/2011 19:40

Agreed, and it seems to be on the radio all the time at the moment.

said · 31/10/2011 19:45

Oh god yes, OP. His phrasing is all wrong; the poignancy and wistfulness is all lost.

upahill · 31/10/2011 20:08

We went to see the Manics last November.
It was about the 5th time we have seen them and they were brill (as usual)
Nciky looked fab (as usual)
I've not heard the song yet (off to youtube to have a listen.
Which station is playing it a lot.
Mind you I am a planet rock girl and they only play the Manics very occasionly.

IwoulddoPachacuti · 31/10/2011 20:11

I LOVE the Manic's ! Leave my James alone, he is mine!Smile

upahill · 31/10/2011 20:13

At the gig last year Iwoulddo James did a bit of a solo set. Just him on stage.

Very good it was!

IwoulddoPachacuti · 01/11/2011 00:06

He is amazing! DH and I went to see te at the Corn Exchange last year and it was their best gig yet. I bought their greatest hits album today even though I already have all the songs.

It's me clinging on to my mis-spent youth Smile I will love them until my dying day!

AnathemaDevice · 01/11/2011 19:24

I absolutely love the Manics, but this song is, well, not great, to say the least. I've not heard the original, but it can't be any worse.

Still, it'll give me a chance for a bar/toilet break at the O2 gig in December.

Yes, I've just posted on two Manics threads in a row. Yes, I know this makes me seem like a bit of a saddo.

redlac · 01/11/2011 19:41

I like the cover version - it is played on 6music at least 4 times a day.

JoinTheDots · 01/11/2011 20:17

Also played on xfm 104.9 Londonat least once per DJ show.

upahill · 01/11/2011 21:43

I still hadn't heard it on the radio so just got it up on youtube and then listened to the the.

hmmm! If you can't say anything good don't say anything at all I think!!

katkitya · 27/12/2011 08:43

That cover version made me weep, there was no need for it. That song for me was my teenage years, I loved The The and it that song could never be covered properly. I wonder what they were thinking?
