Feel like having kids has robbed me of my musical hipness. Just starting to have time now for more musical exploration, so thought I'd check in and say what's da worrrd on Mumsnet.

My offering: Warpaint.

New REM album out this coming week, with first single here:

consequenceofsound.net/2011/01/check-out-new-r-e-m-single-mine-smell-like-honey/

It's a US site (am based in America), so hopefully will work for you.

I always found Rough Trades end of year round up great source of inspiration for those of us who aren't quite as 'down with it' as we used to be www.amazon.co.uk/Rough-Trade-Counter-Culture-10/dp/B004FO932S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1299451332&sr=8-1

Spawnchorus - I think I might just love you a little bit!

I heard Undertow months ago but couldnt remember enough about it to track down the band, followed your link (LOVE elephants) and it's Warpaint.

I don't think I have anything to offer - nothing new anyway, I'm realy loving crystal castles atm, best I can do...

sharbie · 06/03/2011 22:58

o o o me too crystal castles

Earlybird · 07/03/2011 16:33

I'm hopelessly out of touch - i've never heard of most of these! Blush

huffythethreadslayer · 07/03/2011 16:35

My last 'new' band was the Arctic Monkeys just before they hit big. Now I'm struggling to figure out who's who or what's what!!!

Sparkletastic · 07/03/2011 16:36

The XX
James Blake

However I mainly favour my Ministry of Sound Electronic 80s cds at the mo so I'm totally embracing my youth / impending middle age....

whatkungfuthat · 11/03/2011 17:17

I've been told by someone verrry hip to check out Milipede Engine

HattiFattner · 11/03/2011 17:37

find a band you like, then go to last fm and type in the name of the artist. It will then find and play lots of bands/singers in similar musical genre to the one you like.

If you like loud guitar pop with a pounding rocky edge, try

If you like weird kinky Gaga-esque electro-kookiness with a vast dollop of pretension, try

If you like 80s-style electro, try

If you like the Pet Shop Boys and Soft Cell, try

If you like country-tinged wistful American guitar-pop, try

If you like quirkier, younger-sounding electropop, try

If you like wistful, "interesting" singer-songwriters with doleful eyes, try

If you like Radio 2-friendly girlypop, try

if you like more R'n'B-ish Radio 1-friendly girlypop, try

If you like rap, try

Something for everyone?

I absolutely love Warpaint.

I loved Claire Maguire's first single (Ain't Nobody) but cannot abide her follow up singles. She over-emotes every. single. word.

I'm quite interested in ... they remind me of Smashing Pumpkins/Pixies/Sebadoh/jangly 90's US indie. Shame their band name sucks.

purepurple · 22/04/2011 09:53

I love Chapel Club at the moment. Very 1980s retro.
