After reading Minniebars thread on a classic album listeners club- rather like a book club but for records - I have decided to start our own 'club'

What classic album would you recommend to us?

Why?

Here's mine (think fast, OMG there are so many........thinking!!!!)

Classic Album. Led Zeppelin 2

Why? At the age of 13 (nearly 33years ago) I heard this album for the first time and it changed my life - sort of. It sealed my musical taste for ever.

Whole Lotta love is a classic track that most people will have heard of at some point even if they don't know who it is
Thank You is the most beautiful love song in the world and always makes me smile and makes me feel happy.

Another one for Green Day - American Idiot. A cynical commentary on modern society.

The Stone Roses - The Stones Roses
I can listen to this again and again and again. A masterpiece. Rough, but polished; young but wise; shouty moments, melodic moments and every single track sends me back to somewhere/sometime/someone. I can't belive it is 22 years old and I can still find something new in it every time.

Jareth I think you've been raiding my collection Grin

I'd have to add (just for starters)
Longpigs - The Sun is Often Out
Kings of Convenience - Quiet is the New Loud
Gene - Drawn to the Deep End

ethelina I saw Neil Hannon from the Divine Comedy at a festival back in 1998; he duetted with Ash at one point and it was just brilliant.

[Also BikeRunSki I agree with the Stone Roses, though am I the only person who also loves The Second Coming?]

Apologies, had a few Wine this evening so am getting a bit carried away Wink

Is everyone on this this thread about 40 or something?

BikeRunSki · 06/02/2011 09:34

Carick Also love The Second Coming - Ten Storey Love Song - but, if choosing only one, then had to be TSR.

joydivisionovengloves · 06/02/2011 13:39

Can't pick one. Struggled to whittle it down to five even:

The Smiths - The Queen is Dead
Bruce Springsteen - Darkness on The Edge of Town
The Weatherthans - Left and Leaving
Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run
Neil Young - Harvest

Batteryhuman · 06/02/2011 13:47

David Bowie - Hunky Dory

Van Morrison - Moon Dance

BelligerentGhoul · 06/02/2011 15:59
