'Classic' records you hate with passion

I don't know about you (crikey I've come all over Denis Norton there!) but there are some songs that everyone seems to love but I hate so much I can't stand to have it played near me.

My biggest hate is Band on the Run and in joint first place is Jet. Both are an aural version of finger nails on a chalk board.

I really have to turn the radio, or tv over when I hear these songs. I have no idea why!

:) Moondog. I have been known to walk out of shops, after telling the bemused assistants that I am leaving because of Coldplay.

cyteen · 20/08/2010 20:22

Hooray! Someone else who loathes Hi Ho Silver Lining and Come On Eileen :)

moondog · 20/08/2010 20:24

Ah BG, a woman who understands!

Come on, who doesn't like a drunken stagger around the dancefloor to Dexy's?
It's an insitution I tell you.

sungirltan · 20/08/2010 20:25

what is 'stars'?

i like coldplay (ducks)

i hate james blunt. beautiful makes me vom as does that one droning on about watching someone breathing. sadly dh loves him, and bloody dido.

LyraSilvertongue · 20/08/2010 20:30

You're Beautiful by James Blunt.
I've been known to fly across a room to switch off the radio if it comes on.
Ok, not a classic as such but everybody seemed to love it a few years back.

moondog · 20/08/2010 20:33

James Blunt.
Silly cunt.

I;m convinced he is just a giant joke that i am not in on.
He has no saving graces whatsoever.
I went right off a friend who had that 'Beautiful' dirge as a ringtone.

BelligerentGhoul · 20/08/2010 20:34

I'm afraid I always think slightly less of people if they like James B.

BelligerentGhoul · 20/08/2010 20:35

Oh I also worry if anybody admits to liking Take That too. I feel a certain superiority over those who do. Wink

cyteen · 20/08/2010 20:42

Don't be afraid BG; I think a lot less of people if they like James Blunt.

When 'Beautiful' came out, I was working in an open plan office with about 30 other women. The girl who sat behind me developed a liking for this song and when she wasn't turning it up on the radio, she was half-mumbling the chorus ALL FUCKING DAY LONG in between telling people how lovely it was. This went on for about a year.

BelligerentGhoul · 20/08/2010 20:43

Ugh - and you didn't beat her about the head with a large hole punch?

cyteen · 20/08/2010 20:43

Bow before my Jedi calm Grin It was a close run thing.

DunderMifflin · 20/08/2010 20:44

Farking Baker Street - that sax bit makes me want to punch my own head.

BelligerentGhoul · 20/08/2010 20:46

Cyteen - I am in awe.

sungirltan · 20/08/2010 20:47

certainly not a classic. god i effing hate that song so bloody much. i liked that wise men song he did but then beautiful cameo ut and it was OVER!!!

anything can be spoiled by overkill though. a few years back id be ranting her about how much i hate bob marley because the girls in my doem at school played legend every day for a year!

and breathe, quite like him now :-)

ivykaty44 · 20/08/2010 20:49

Anything by the Beatles and that includes anything by any memebr of the band after they stopped being the beetles and went alone to do other awaful stuff and some are still doing awful stuff and it makes me think he just does well on the back of being in the bettles years ago cos his stuff is shite and to prove this onyl about 40 people turned upt o one of his last gigs

Sidge · 20/08/2010 20:50

Angels - Robbie Williams

Born in the USA - Bruce Springsteen. Makes me want to pull my ears off and eat them. It's shouting not singing.

Imagine - John Lennon. Dirge.

BelligerentGhoul · 20/08/2010 20:51

AND people show (and I assume buy) his godawful paintings too....bonkers.

One of our local galleries had Bob Dylan paintings for sale recently - another crap painter and crap singer.

LostArt · 20/08/2010 20:58

ivykaty that's quite a passionate response! But so, so true!

Also, while not exactly classic, anything by Madonna or Kylie.

spiritmum · 20/08/2010 21:00

That Lovely Day song. The one that goes, 'Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day, LOVELY day' by which time I want to eat the stereo.

Imagine - big load of hypocritical self-contradictory cobblers. Although not as bad as those dewy-eyed celebs who queue up to tell us how 'beautiful' it is.

spiritmum · 20/08/2010 21:01

Oooh, yeah, Madonna. Grim.

sungirltan · 20/08/2010 21:01

jack johnson.

bluebump · 20/08/2010 21:01

Pretty much anything by Queen or Abba.

MollysChambers · 20/08/2010 21:02

Oh Sidge,

I love Bruce Springsteen. Born in the USA a long way from being fave song though. He doesn't play it a concerts anymore. And he may be older than my Dad but I still would...

Beatles / Lennon / McCartney - don't get it. McCartney really gets on my wick...

Can't stand -
Sting
Lionel Ritchie
Phil Collins
Spandau Ballet
Duran Duran

BelligerentGhoul · 20/08/2010 21:04

Phil Collins - now there is a man who needs garrotting with his own bleeding microphone. He is appalling.
