My conditions have worsened

I get pip. Low rate personal care. High rate mobility.

my conditions have worsened significantly and this can be evidenced.

if you were me would you contact PIP or would you let it be? I’m scared to in case they downgrade my award.

my award is due for review in January 2027.

I’d contact them

You can contact them and let them know (I did when I had a new diagnosis). They will ask you if you want your claim reassessed though. I said no, I just wanted it noted as a change.

Yes I would. DP and DFIL have both done this recently. The form they send out is shorter, but you must remember to fill it in as though it is your first PIP form as they won't look back at your last one to compare the evidence to.

DP had his claim increased, DFIL was kept on the same award but his award length was significantly increased as is unlikely to get better.

You can request a change of circumstances, but be aware the award can be reduced/denied as well as increased. You would be able to go down the MR and appeal route, but it is something you need to be aware of.

That’s what worries me.

It is a personal thing, and not something that I would advise to someone online, because I don't know them, or how they react to any sort of stress, and navigating the PIP system can be very stressful for people. The problem with the system at present, is that you would just be wanting them to look at the care element, but they look at the whole award. I personally don't know why that is, and it puts a lot of people off when things get worse.

I'm sorry to hear your condition has worsened xx

Can you look at your original award & see what you scored in each section & see if you're likely to increase your actual score?

it really depends whether various things would just be a bit worse now or if specific things would have changed enough (iyswim).

As your condition has worsened & you can evidence it, you shouldn't end up losing your award OR having it downgraded. BUT we all know you'd have to be prepared for the battle if some numpty dd do that.

Personally I'd do it if I had evidence it was worse. But it is a personal choice.
