I've never claimed benefits before so don't know where to start
I currently work full time but need to stop due to being in extreme back pain all the time and having permanent nerve damage to my legs/feet.
My mental health is being destroyed by having to drag myself to work and I can't do it anymore.

Where do i start? What do i do? I firstly need to try and claim PIP i think but is there anything else? Can I claim universal credit or anything like that?
My husband has an income but not enough to cover everything,

You can apply for PIP whether you are in work or not.

It's quite a slow process but they do backdate it to when you phone.

I'd advise you to get all your medical documents together first as you'll need them for the claim (you need to evidence that you are ill/disabled)

Have you had an occupational health report at your job?

Uc Is means tested- how much does your Dh earn? Pip you can claim for, have a look at the descriptiors and see if you think you would be eligible

Sorry to quote but the "reply" function doesn't seem to work for me on the new layout.
Have you looked at medical retirement? You would need to have occupational health support and apply to whichever pension scheme you are in.
In addition I would apply for ESA and PIP (separate application processes, PIP requires good evidence of how your disability affects you).
Even if you don't qualify for any money from ESA, you would still get NI credits which contribute towards your entitlement to state pension.
