Counselling

Does anybody else feels like it's extremely hard to get good Counsellors?
Wise and mature people who understand hard times are in short supply in the general population and it's worse among Counsellors

Most of them are in it purely for the money. Many have no special understanding or skills or broader life experience and many are sick of the whingeing
This is a problem when a client is traumatised over years or decades and needs to talk . Instead you spend about 15 mins at the end of a session covering 15 years of trauma and then it's all about pulling up your boots and moving on...the next session starts from scratch instead of picking up and often the counsellor wants to pick up on something completely irrelevant to talk about that wastes the majority of a session

anybody agree ?

I agree about wasting sessions. So many of them just fall back on "how was your week?" then they waste an hour picking at pointless crap in the week instead of helping me deal with my actual profound problems and when I try and talk about those, they come out with stupid platitudes like "just be kind to yourself" or "you never have time for yourself" or "if you want to do it, go for it". Like I could get that sort of useless Barnum statement from a fake psychic for about 1/30 of the price and I still wouldn't internalize it!

Does anyone really hear "just be kind to yourself" and think to themselves "wow well I'll stop rage eating/hurting myself/impulse spending and go and live my best life because some expensive random told me to be kinder to myself!"

I've found even the good ones are good for 6-12 sessions but beyond that, they lose focus, forget to re-evaluate goals and what we're working on, and end up back at "so how was your week?" or totally forgetting everything up to that point.
