Auditory Overload

As part of my asd I get auditory overload and it is very very stressful. I have to try very hard to control myself and not meltdown.

Have you ever found a way of explaining to other people, when they are chattering on at you about nothing in particular in loud voices, the internal distress that it is causing you, and asking them to be quieter? My family are not at all sympathetic or understanding.

No. Sadly the only thing that seems to work is screaming "SHUT UP" and bursting into tears from the shock of the unexpected loss of control.

It's like they hear the polite requests and explanations but can't process them.

Same with "Please stop touching me, it hurts". Never works.
