Self diagnosed ASD

I just wondered how many of you with ASD have self diagnosed and left it at that? My chances of diagnosis are slim, the fees are a problem but more than that, everything the diagnosis process seems to involve is my idea of hell on earth and has put me off going for it. However, I’m pretty sure I would get a positive diagnosis but I feel like a fraud labelling myself as such without a piece of paper to say so. Should add that I’m not interested in accessing help or anything, I just want to make peace with myself and have an explanation for my weirdness, both for myself and my family.

I know there are MNetters here that have self diagnosed but are you open about that? Would you identify yourself publicly as having ASD... if that makes sense!

Hi, I'm self diagnosed and I wouldn't tell people that I have asd as I need it professionally confirmed before it feels real for me if that makes any sense? I have a niggling worry that I might fail the assessment and would look like a fraud for saying I have it. Since I self diagnosed I've started to be much more understanding of my social slip ups and kinder to myself in general. It feels like I've found a missing piece of myself :)
