Who can diagnose ASD/Aspergers/ADHD in adults?

(Again, sorry if this should be on the mental health board instead!)

I've been referred to the Community Mental Health Team today. I score really high on the screening tests for anxiety and depression, aspergers/asd, adhd and borderline personality disorder! Because I score high for anxiety and depression and have had those symptoms for a verrry long time and have had a 6 week course of counselling that did more damage than good, I have been prescribed anti-depressants! I'm so nervous about taking them! Does anyone else have any experience of taking anti-depressants and going through the diagnostic process for any of the above? This is ALL so new to me and I feel a bit ovewhelmed! Does anyone know roughly how long it takes for a referral to come through from the CMHT?

What a day!

I take long term antidepressants, you wont know if they help til you try :) they do help me move up a bit from suicidal to just 'down', so can be good. But otoh they made my dh (likely adhd, possible asd) go loopy and he went awol, so i understand being wary

My cmht referred over to the a clinical psychologist, who is the one who will be able to diagnose me, once i get that far. So far she has seen me for one appt and agreed that i have sufficient traits to pursue some sort of further diagnosis (likely asd), but there is a loooong wait between appts.

iamaboveandBeyond Sorry! This disappeared from the 'Threads I'm On' so I had no idea you'd replied!

I think I am having some sort of assessment this friday? Bit confused as I had a letter reminding me to make a clinic/hospital appointment. But it didn't come with a referral letter with the password on. On ringing about that, I was told this was for an assessment for ADHD but the number I was given was the same number I'd rang to confirm my appointment with a different talking therapy? lol So confused!

I've been on citalopram for 2 months now. I've felt extremely low recently and when I go back to the drs on Thursday, I'm going to see if maybe changing anti depressant would be okay. I am realising so much about me since being really open about my depression, but I'm realising I've honestly felt like this since at least 14 years old. And I'm wondering if that depression is a result of not being diagnosed as a child. My mum sent me a few enlightening texts about me when I was younger.

Do you have an appt for the pursuit of a diagnosis? I am just frustrated as now I'm finally acknowledging everything, I want all the answers now!! lol

Oh gosh sorry, now its me not replying!

I do now have an appointment to start my asd assessment, its next week

I completely understand what you mean about feeling depressed long term, on my 'good days' (the ones where im just rather than sad) i feel exactly as i have as long as i remember. Before finding out about the asd traits i have and how it can present as ongoing depression, i just assumed i had a naturally melancholy personality

Hey iamaboveandBeyond have you had your appointment yet? :)

I am going to self refer myself to the adult autism assessment unit in my county to see if that is any quicker?! I had a mental health assessment with a different talking therapy the other week, where it was agreed I would benefit from more longer term counselling and I got the letter back saying I'd been referred for 6 weeks of CBT?! Not quite what was discussed lol

I need to remember to ring my GP to find out exactly where else I've been referred as I keep getting these NHS appointment line letters reminding me to book my hospital/clinic appointment, but they don't come with a referral letter so I have no idea what it is for!!! lol So frustrating! I am pretty sure I need to be seen by a psychologist, tbh!
