Thank you for trying the Philips Sensual Massager - we really hope you are enjoying yourself with this product test!
Please let us know all about it....we're dying to find out!

Below are some questions to get you thinking but feel free to add your own thoughts/ comments/ observations!

If you are not part of the test please also feel to post comments or questions to testers

Stage 1 - receiving the Sensual Massager
First thoughts - what did you think when you received the product? Were you surprised by its appearance? Was it what you were expecting? What did your partner say? How easy was it to figure out? Did you need any additional information? How long did it take you to use it?

To be answered after 1st use:
Stage 2 - using the Sensual Massager for the first time
Sooooo, how was it? Did the earth move for you? How did your partner find it? How did you use it? How did you broach the subject of using it? Was it fun to use or tricky? Any embarrassment (kids walking in?!) What did you both say in the cold light of day after use?
Thanks, MNHQ

Stage 1 - receiving the Sensual Massager

good lord here I am at last - it took us this long to actually unwrap it. I thought at one stage we were going to have to hire a childminder before we in fact got to use it Anyway.

First thoughts - what did you think when you received the product? Were you surprised by its appearance?

not really as had googled it and sniggered a bit at its pebble like appearance. is a bit different to other toys we have tried. Like other testers I like the fact it doesn't look like a great big stiffy. Why are they always purple? i would prefer silver or black, i think. but it is discreet looking and not unappealing.

Was it what you were expecting? What did your partner say?

he was ripping the pack open! we don't get much chance these days for things like this, to put it mildly. he was quite excited about it. i said "steady on, we aren't going to use it tonight. ds2 is going to wake up in a minute and i am knackered." Then we had a fiddle around with it and made it buzz and stuff. i said "ah well perhaps we could give it a quick go"

How easy was it to figure out?

well it needed a little experimentation ime, as they different sides had different effects, and the pointy end was unlike other sex toys i have tried. we played around with the buttons a bit and tried different ways of holding it.

Did you need any additional information?

not really, but we read the 'manual' afterwards just out of interest. it says don't use scented massage oil?? yet a bottle was included in the parcel?? we didn't use anything with it - will try with lube another time, maybe.

How long did it take you to use it?

erm about an hour. we started straight away but then ds2 woke up. then our garlic bread was ready . well, you know, cold garlic bread is no good, is it? then ds2 woke up again! we are used to unromantic interruptions like this, so it didn't matter. we just started fooling around with it again each time.

Stage 1 - receiving the Sensual Massager
First thoughts - what did you think when you received the product?
WTF!! the bag was open and the postie could clearly see what was in there, and he thought I had bought it!!! that knowing smile as he handed it over was beyond emarrasing... Who thought sending it in a bag was a good idea!!!!!!!!!!

Were you surprised by its appearance?
Yes, it was small and neat and didn't look like a huge penis, to be honest I was relieved, I liked it.

Was it what you were expecting?
not at all, much more discreet, nice colour

What did your partner say?
he smiled and looked nervous

How easy was it to figure out?
very

Did you need any additional information?
no

How long did it take you to use it?
I had a little play that day but it has waited until this morning for us to use it together

To be answered after 1st use:
Stage 2 - using the Sensual Massager for the first time
Sooooo, how was it?
I liked it to a certain extent but as it is a sensation I haven't had before it took some getting used to.

Did the earth move for you?
not whilst using it but it set me up nicely and with only a little further stimulation I had a fabulous orgasm

How did your partner find it?
he liked it, it was a nice surprise for him to be woken up with me using it on him
How did you use it?
started off with it on him, nipples, genitals, then once we were making love we had it in between us on my clitoris

How did you broach the subject of using it?
Just woke him up with me using it on him

Was it fun to use or tricky?
fun

Any embarrassment (kids walking in?!)
yes but it helped to get him started again after the interuption and that never happens.

What did you both say in the cold light of day after use?
fun, would use it again, I need to get used to it, am quicker on my own but the intensity of orgasm is greater with the pebble (as we have been calling it)

Thanks, MNHQ

lou33 · 16/11/2009 09:23

i call it the pebble too

geordieminx · 27/11/2009 21:27

Can anyone clarify which "model" it was? There seems to be a few...

Just out of interest like

OoerMissus · 03/12/2009 20:47

Sorry I just realised I never came back to answer the second part

well at first I thought hmm this is quite nice, I am going to like this
then I got a bit distracted by playing around with the different effects and speeds, and i kind of lost momentum
dp was having a go using it on me, and i liked it, but the sensation wasn't strong enough to get to orgasm
i then took over and used it on myself, but as I say the moment had passed and i couldn't lose myself and enjoy it sufficiently
personally i could have used a bit more welly it was not intense enough - maybe i am just very insensitive
but i find it hard to relax and forget about the kids etc, so something subtle isn't enough for me
god i must be a worn out old bag or something

anyway
we used it on dp and he liked it very much indeed
it was fun using it on him as i could be quite teasy, using the different speeds and pulses, bringing him close and then not letting him get there
he found it very enjoyable and easy to have an orgasm using it

then we tried it on me again, however, i was bored of it, and suggested we just did the deed, with the massager in between us - bingo!
that did the trick all right. we both loved it, i was very impressed by the sensations and had a great big orgasm very quickly
dp was able to come again quite fast which he would not normally have done so soon

god is this the kind of thing you want? am i being too detailed here? oh well better too much information than not enough, possibly

we had fun with it, thank you for letting us try it out

AnnMumsnet · 04/12/2009 14:40

Thanks for all the great feedback so far....we knew we could rely on you MNers to tell us how it is - here are the next lot of questions now you've had the massagers a while.

Stage 3 - subsequent uses and beyond

How often are you using it? Any reasons for use/ non use? How do you see this fitting in with your sex life in the future? Wish you'd had one years ago? Has it encouraged you to get more intimate? What does your partner think? Who initiates using the Sensual Massager? How are you using it? What's best for you/what's not so good? Would you recommend the Sensual Massager (if you could do it anonymously!)?

Can someone post and let geordieminx know what model you have (she is "just interested")!?

Thanks, Ann, MNHQ

OoerMissus · 05/12/2009 18:53

Ann you'd better email testers again with a link to this thread, or people won't be checking in
i only saw it because i just posted on it this week

erm we aren't using it very often but that isn't because we don't like it
it's because we are knackered and there are children everywhere
it has encouraged us to have sex mre often as it is something new, and also to be perfectly blunt, i suppose it makes an orgasm less of an effort
sorry but we are tired people!
i am wondering if it makes you a bit lazy! you could get in a rut of always using it and not touching one another with fingers / tongue - hmm
in general my partner likes it
we both like it used in between us with me sitting on top
he also likes it used on his penis and more or less anywhere
i am less fussed about having it used on other parts of my body, i just find it a bit tickly and annoying
i would recommend it yes, thanks for sending it to us

AnnMumsnet · 06/12/2009 22:40

don't worry ooermissus we'll be emailing testers again tomorrow with a link! thanks for your comments.....

Stage 3 - subsequent uses and beyond

How often are you using it?

almost everytime we have sex, although a couple of times we forgot about it LOL

Any reasons for use/ non use?

only that we are bpth knackered at the moment, maybe when we both get a bit of time off work it will get more use

How do you see this fitting in with your sex life in the future?

an added bit of fun but not an essential IYKWIM

Wish you'd had one years ago?

Its def better than our other toy, more comfortable to hold and easier to slip between us.

Has it encouraged you to get more intimate?

it has encourgaed us to talk more about what we both like, which can only be a good thing

What does your partner think?

he claims its really for me but i think he enjoys it too

Who initiates using the Sensual Massager?

we both have at different times

How are you using it? What's best for you/what's not so good? Would you recommend the Sensual Massager (if you could do it anonymously!)?

yes would recommmend it, i don't l;ike the pulsing setting persoanlly but can see why others might, I like the shape of it and the way it fits so comfortably in your hand and also the way it fits between us without being a hindrance or digging in too much. Also, the thin seam that runs round it has started to open up slightly at one end - not sure if thats normal?

How often are you using it

Not very often, we are both very tired and germ ridden at the moment. The libido is waning after many interrupted nights.

Reasons for use/non use

Its good to get you going so useful when we have more time, but sometimes when things arent planned I can't be bothered to retrieve it from its hiding place!

How do you see it fitting in with your sex life in future?

Yes it will be a part, but not essential. Its nice when we have the energy and imagination to try new things.

Wish you had one years ago?

Not desperately

Has it encouraged more intimacy

Yes to a degree, but also more giggling. Its encouraged us to do different things and maybe take some more time over each other

What does my partner think

He thinks its OK, not too tacky or Ann Summers so he is willing to use it, but he seems just as happy without

How are you using it

Just to start with, massaging each other, on nipples and other intimate areas but not during that act so to speak. Its nice afterwards too.

Whats best for you

Thats its discreet, rechargeable has different speed settings and easy to hide away.

Would you recommend it

yes

lou33 · 18/12/2009 11:38

Stage 3 - subsequent uses and beyond

How often are you using it?
tbh not a lot, mainly because i think the rabbit is a better toy, i have used it once or twice since

Any reasons for use/ non use?
For me personally i think its a bit limited in what it offers for the price, not many different vibration modes , limited range of strength to use it

How do you see this fitting in with your sex life in the future?
not on a regular basis

Wish you'd had one years ago?
sadly no, sorry to say it was a bit of a disappontment for me tho my oh loved it

Has it encouraged you to get more intimate?
no, there were no issues in that respect in the first place

What does your partner think?
he really liked it, i think that is because there is less of a range of sex toys for men though

Who initiates using the Sensual Massager?
either

How are you using it?
its not being used currently

What's best for you/what's not so good?
i do like the fact it is rechargeable and quieter than any other toys i have used, but i think its a little basic for the price

Would you recommend the Sensual Massager (if you could do it anonymously!)?

i would recommend it as a toy for couples that were not really used to toys, as a first time experience, as it doesnt look intimidating and is easy to operate

forkhandles · 05/01/2010 14:55

Stage 3 - subsequent uses and beyond

How often are you using it?
Once a week

Any reasons for use/ non use?
Sometimes it's not to hand otherwise we'd probably use it. It could be a bit stronger though

How do you see this fitting in with your sex life in the future?
Yes, we'll be using it.

Wish you'd had one years ago?
Yes, it's good

Has it encouraged you to get more intimate?
No not really but it's been fun using it!

What does your partner think?
Yup he likes it

Who initiates using the Sensual Massager?
Either

How are you using it?
Mostly he uses it on me.

What's best for you/what's not so good?
I don't know

Would you recommend the Sensual Massager (if you could do it anonymously!)?
Yes I would

me

How are you using it?
regularly (albeit infrequently)

What's best for you/what's not so good?
Rechargable and the shape - don't like the phallic ones. Could be a bit more powerful.

Would you recommend the Sensual Massager (if you could do it anonymously!)?

Yes. Its discreet and probably easier to lie about if the kids found it.

Ohforfoxsake · 07/01/2010 18:35

sorry, stuffed up my copy and pasting there, and pasted lou33s answers. I am having a bad Mumsnet day.

Stage 3 - subsequent uses and beyond

How often are you using it?
Regularly but not frequently.

Any reasons for use/ non use?
Just don't have sex that often. I have four children and am permanently knackered.

How do you see this fitting in with your sex life in the future?
Yes, but mostly when flying solo

Wish you'd had one years ago?
definately prefer it to some I've had. My one with wires is particularly antiquated.

Has it encouraged you to get more intimate?
no, only a week on my own without chores would do that.

What does your partner think?
He is encouraged by it.

Who initiates using the Sensual Massager?
me

How are you using it?
regularly (albeit infrequently)

What's best for you/what's not so good?
Rechargable and the shape - don't like the phallic ones. Could be a bit more powerful. I had just invested in a new rabbit and was disappointed. I much prefer this.

Would you recommend the Sensual Massager (if you could do it anonymously!)?

Yes. Its discreet and probably easier to lie about if the kids found it.

testingtime · 08/01/2010 08:42

Stage 3 - subsequent uses and beyond

How often are you using it?

not very frequently - but sex is infrequent atm - away for Christmas, tired, germy etc - not through lack of interest!

Any reasons for use/ non use? see above, but also DH hasn't initiated use of it and I don't want to push it

How do you see this fitting in with your sex life in the future? as an added bonus, to be used sometimes for a change, to add a different dimension but not every time

Wish you'd had one years ago? yes! is only toy we have.

Has it encouraged you to get more intimate? nnot really, added a different dimension I suppose, has not meant more sex though.

What does your partner think? Likes it on me, liked the idea less on him, but likes the actuality.
Who initiates using the Sensual Massager? me so far

How are you using it? mostly on me, to achieve orgasm - I never orgasm during intercourse, so have used it before/after. Want to use it between us during as suggested above, but not had the opportunity or energy!

What's best for you/what's not so good? the constant setting, best - gets the job done effectively at the stronger setting - gentle seting not so effective. Pulse setting is just annoying, does not turn me on!

Would you recommend the Sensual Massager (if you could do it anonymously!)? Yes I would!

WalkAndTalk · 08/01/2010 10:56

Hi

Sorry it's taken me so long! blames work, the festive season and the snow

Anyway - Stage 3 - subsequent uses and beyond

How often are you using it? Not every time, just occasionally.

Any reasons for use/ non use? I am heavily pregnant so we're not as active in this area as normal. Perhaps it will get more use post-baby (laughs heartily at self-delusion)?

How do you see this fitting in with your sex life in the future? Occasional bit of fun, something different.

Wish you'd had one years ago? Yes, definitely!

Has it encouraged you to get more intimate? It has quite a few times. DH thanks you, Philips.

What does your partner think? See above! He thinks it's fun.

Who initiates using the Sensual Massager? Probably 50:50.

How are you using it? Mostly on each other, not jointly (but will give that a go once I have sprogged).

What's best for you/what's not so good? Like the shape and the constant setting too.

Would you recommend the Sensual Massager (if you could do it anonymously!)? I would. No doubt I'll drunkenly go on about it once I am back on the sauce.

Thanks again, Philips and MN for this.

WalkAndTalk · 08/01/2010 10:58

Oh and as per AnnMumsnet's request, here are DH's alternative names for it.

The love pebble.
The skim.
The pebblepash (sounds too much like pebbledash to me).
The pashpebble.

I think your marketing department is safe for now
