RebeccaEMumsnet · 28/04/2016 11:08

This is the feedback thread for the MN testers who are trying out our Mumsnet Pregnancy Tracker app.

There's no such thing as a textbook pregnancy - but the chances are, whatever you're going through, someone else has been through, too. Our free, week-by-week tracker app combines the medical facts with advice drawn from the real-life experiences of thousands of other mums to guide you all the way through your pregnancy - and beyond.

The app is available in iTunes here

The app is sponsored by Persil Non-bio and Comfort Pure, here’s what they have to say: "We are really excited to be partnering with the Mumsnet Pregnancy Tracker App, which gives mums to be all the wisdom they need ahead of their new arrival. Specially formulated for delicate skin, Persil Non-Bio and Comfort Pure are a favourite with parents as they help to care for and protect a baby’s sensitive skin, making this partnership a natural fit for us during this special time."

Testers - please share with us below:

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful? Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
What else would you like to see in the app?
How easy or difficult was it to use?
Any other comments?

All testers who take part and who add feedback as requested, will be entered into a prize draw where one tester will win a £300 John Lewis voucher. Don't forget to also add your review here

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?

Well designed way to get onto different chat boards.

Weekly summaries are also nice to browse, and to keep track of progress

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
Yes
It probably has the same info I've seen elsewhere - nhs sites, baby centre etc, but is nicely designed and the links back to Mumsnet chats help expand its use.

What else would you like to see in the app?
A place to keep ongoing notes for eg baby name ideas and 'things to get' lists.

It may be there but I couldn't find a way to search for things that I might want to look up or know more about - so a search option for looking up common symptoms would be nice. Though the discussion board are a way to find out about these through shared experiences.

How easy or difficult was it to use?
Very simple, (though I couldn't see any search option.)

Any other comments?

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?

Lots of information (re baby but also things to think about) that I hadn't seen on other apps.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?

Probably although I felt like it was missing basic information some weeks e.g. how big the baby is - other apps always tell you how long it is (& compared to a vegetable Hmm - mine is currently the same size as an aubergine, apparently Grin), how much it weighs and what he/she is doing.

What else would you like to see in the app?

The basic information about the baby (length, weight etc), so you can follow it each week

How easy or difficult was it to use?

Really user friendly and nice to use.

Any other comments?

Enjoyed it & will continue to use it. Thank you.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?
I liked that the information was written in a down-to-earth (not patronising or cutesy) way. I also liked that it didn't force you to enter lots of information, aside from your due date; no nicknames etc. There were no reminders to do things or enter certain information regularly.
I liked the fact that with each mini-article it linked to a mumsnet talk topic page so you could read discussions about the issue.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
I would recommend it for the reasons mentioned above. However, I would be more likely to recommend it if it included some other features...
What else would you like to see in the app?
It would be nice to have more detailed physical information about the baby's development. For example, approximate length and weight. Also I would like more photos/scan pictures for the different weeks.
How easy or difficult was it to use?
Quite easy although once I had worked it out but it wasn't totally intuitive.
Any other comments?
I think it's a good app, especially if it's free. If it is not free, it would be hard for it to compete with the other free apps. I didn't find the sponsorship intrusive - it was there on the screen but didn't seem to impact the content.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?

The weekly updates on how my baby is developing.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?

Only as an app to log weekly pics/detailing journal of pregnancy, not much content.

What else would you like to see in the app?

More content, links.

How easy or difficult was it to use?

Very easy to use.

Any other comments?

Nice app but needs way more content.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?

  • The week by week information

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
  • Not right now, there just isn't enough content yet. There seems to be more in the weekly emails.

What else would you like to see in the app?
More content and less advertising

How easy or difficult was it to use?
It was very easy.

Any other comments?
It seems a bit gimmicky and advertising driven at the moment. There needs to be more information and links to more general topics e.g baby names and common problems. I think it could be fantastic, but at the moment it is just too bare bones.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?
I like the sections about what's happening to my body and baby.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?

No, because I think there are better apps available.

What else would you like to see in the app?

More articles or different things to look at daily - once you've read the weekly update when you turn X amount of weeks there's not really any other reason to go back onto the app again for a week.

How easy or difficult was it to use?

Fairly easy, took a little while to get used to which way to swipe when you've finished reading each section.

Any other comments?

Less advertising would be good.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?

I like the little bits of information you get. Like how will your body feel at this week, exercise etc and things like tiredness and dos and don'ts.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?

I would recommend it, it looks nice and simple to use. You can upload bump selfies and notes for baby.

What else would you like to see in the app?

More options of things to do, like weight check and food diary, stuff mothers worry about.

How easy or difficult was it to use?

It is relatively easy, although its just a case of figuring out what you can do where.

Any other comments?

I think there could be more information available, more little quizzes or something similar.

Which aspects of the Mumsnet pregnancy app did you find most useful?
I liked that it linked to Mumsnet chat threads. I like that it has weekly information rather than daily so I can just have a browse through on a weekend morning (but I felt it had very little content).
Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
No I wouldn't as it has far too little information. Other apps tell you more about baby's development in the womb and have more specific information about how your body is changing.
What else would you like to see in the app?
Images of what baby looks like in the womb and information about their development. A size comparison of course!
I also would like some kind of search feature to look up symptoms or topics within the app (like... When will I feel baby move? Etc..)
I think exercise or eating tips would be great, such as a recipe for a smoothie or diagrams of how to do a particular routine of exercises... Perhaps kegal reminders on each page haha!
I also wonder wether mums would like information about how to do best for baby once born - after all, now is when we are both interested and have time - once baby is born it is all go go go! Maybe sections on breast feeding, language and communication, physical development, attachment, PND, sleep etc? Ooh and you could link to product reviews and advice on Mumsnet too.
how easy or difficult was it to use?
Easy peasy, although at first I thought I was missing something, then I realised it really did only have that information...
any other comments
I wasn't bothered by the advertising and I really did like the look of the app. It seemed sleek and no fuss. Just give us more content please!

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?
Not great, although some Interesting articles and info.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
No there are far better apps available. Content is basic and generic and difficult to navigate through. There is no point in looking at the app more than once a week as the content only changes weekly.

What else would you like to see in the app?
Daily rather than weekly content and a calendar or similar to keep track of how many days and weeks pregnant you are. A way to search for/save articles. Less advertising.

How easy or difficult was it to use?
Difficult and frustrating to navigate round, it feels unfinished. There are some interesting/useful articles and info but there is no way to bookmark/save/search for articles.

Any other comments?
Found other pregnancy apps or even a quick Google search far better. Did not like the fact there are a lot of adverts. Did not like the quotes from threads (and presumably posters are not aware their posts are being used in this way?). It's pretty obvious the main purpose of the app is revenue from advertisers and to drive traffic to the chat website.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?
I liked the what's happening to you and your baby weekly sections.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
Yes. It's fun and easy to use although a little lacking in content.

What else would you like to see in the app?
Size comparison to help visualisation. More info or links for section on SPD etc.

How easy or difficult was it to use?
Very easy

Any other comments?
A nice enough app, a bit basic perhaps.

The app was easy to download and use. It had all the information there week by week and I liked there was lots of information for each week. Unfortunately for me the adverts spoilt it. They were in the middle of the text which can be annoying when you're reading.
I probably wouldn't recommend as it hasn't done anything extra other apps also offered.

What else would you like to see in the app?
Much more content.

How easy or difficult was it to use?
Easy.

Any other comments?
There are lots of other apps with more information. This one needs to have a lot more to compete.

Which aspects? I liked the way it updates each week so you can see the progression. Would recommend it as it's easy to use and like the way it links to mn

What else? More updates pelvic floor exercises been on for ages would like an update

How easy? Very easy to use once I got used to it

Comments? Some of the bits I would never use like the photos of bump etc

What I found most useful was the ability to write notes. I wish I had had this from the start of my pregnancy! It feels a bit late to start now.

Would I recommend? Depends on the parent, someone who has had a baby or a few before might find the information a bit basic.

I'd like more detail on what's happening with my body and the baby's.

I did find it very clear and easy to use and it was easy to navigate around.

The only other comment was that I'd see a quote and want to read the discussion on it, but then I'd get linked to the chat board and not know which thread it was on.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?
I love the weekly update of how baby is doing

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
I am not 100% sure if I would recommend it as you can get other apps which you can tailor more to you.

What else would you like to see in the app?

A countdown feature would be nice. And a section to keep appointment details or other details or a notes section so what abbreviations in notes might be.

How easy or difficult was it to use?

It was simple to use.

Any other comments?
It might have only been me but I was unable to link it to my MN account which I would have loved to do.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
No as there are better apps out there I think.

What else would you like to see in the app?
More information, maybe pictures.

Very easy.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?
the development of my baby plus other info on changes to my body that I didn't even realise we're related to pregnancy (being hot, constipated etc). The photo bit, useful to be prompted to take one each week.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
Not really. Doesn't offer much that is different to the Mumsnet/Bounty/Babycentre emails

What else would you like to see in the app?
Would like to be able to view my photos side by side for a comparison. And if I take a photo through the app, it doesn't save it to my camera roll.

How easy or difficult was it to use?
Hard to navigate. Not clear how to get back to a previous screen and I quite often find myself inadvertently fast forwarding to much later stages.

Any other comments?
Feels like something that could be really good and informative but somehow misses the mark

Most useful - the information seems comprehensive especially re baby's development and your body changes. I like the links to talk at the end of an article

Would you recommend - yes, this is the best pregnancy app I have used

What else would you like to see - videos and a place to record measurements, feelings, name ideas etc.

How easy to use - simple and well designed I like the overall look and feel.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful? The separate sections for my body and the baby's body.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why? For people who are a bit technophobe yes due to simplicity.

What else would you like to see in the app? Links to other users at same stage not just reminders about mumsnet

How easy or difficult was it to use?
Very easy to use.

Any other comments? Less adverts please!

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?

Information on baby development and changes to your body .

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?

No sorry, it is really basic and there are better apps out there for information.

What else would you like to see in the app?
Daily updates rather than weekly. Needs more in depth information .. Try to have more than other apps available . Recipe ideas , exercise ideas are all good. Tips on how to bond with bump.. Advice on kick counting etc. ( maybe a kick counter feature)

How easy or difficult was it to use?

Very easy . One of the easiest apps to use .

Any other comments?

Very basic and ads are quite off puting. Nothing making me want to come back during the week. Not interested in notes and bump feature . Like others have said , you can't save bump pics to phone or view side by side. On a positive side , the app is attractive and easy to use . The tips from other mumsnetters have been interesting and fun.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?
In all honesty the app is a bit basic but it is nice to read how the baby is developing at each stage.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
I'd not recommend it as there are far, far better apps out there.

What else would you like to see in the app?
Estimated size of the baby at each stage (not compared to fruit Hmm) and maybe some scan pictures/ 3D images of how the baby looks. More real-life stories or experiences of other women would be great.

How easy or difficult was it to use?
Very simple to use.

Any other comments?
It seems largely an advertising tool for mumsnet at this stage rather than a source of information for parents-to-be. Pregnancy can be an exhausting, worrying time and an app like this ought to offer as much practical advice/information as possible!

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful? - the week by week updates for me and for baby are handy, and quite reassuring to follow along with

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why? Yes, because it's an easy way to get updates on your stage of pregnancy and since its from Mumsnet which is a brand that I trust, I would recommend that

What else would you like to see in the app? More in depth detail on the updates, maybe with video content

How easy or difficult was it to use? V easy

Any other comments? I like the app, it's simpler and easier to follow than the previous pregnancy app I had (and since deleted) I would like the weekly updates to have a little bit more bulk to them though, but overall good
