This feedback thread is for the 250 Mumsnetters, who have participated in the Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste product test with their DCs.

Here’s what Colgate says: “Did you know that 84% of children and all adults suffer from cavities at some point in their life*?

“Cavities, also known as tooth decay, are the most common chronic disease on the planet.
But cavities are preventable and this is why Colgate® has created a breakthrough new anti-cavity toothpaste called Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid NeutraliserTM.

“Providing close to double protection against early decay**, Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection is the first and only toothpaste to contain Sugar Acid NeutraliserTM technology, that goes beyond the protection of fluoride, neutralising sugar acids in plaque – the #1 cause of cavities.

“Colgate’s Head of Scientific Affairs, Foti Panagakos comments:
“More and more we’re aware of the increasing levels of sugar in our diets and the negative impact this has on our health. The need for a toothpaste with built in Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ technology has never been so urgent. Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ will have a tremendous impact on the oral health of the nation.””

Q1. My overall impression is good. Only time will tell if the toothpaste lives up to it's promises but after the initial adjustment to the different taste the adults in our household really liked it.
Q2. Yes, possibly for the adults. It would be dependent on price as unless there was a deal the current RRP is more than we currently pay.Not at this stage for our daughter as she didn't like the taste and was more reluctant to use it.
Q3. My DD didn't like the taste of the toothpaste and wasn't a fan of the packaging. Her current toothpaste features a smiley tooth and is more appealing to younger children - at age four these things make a difference but as the Colgate Maximum Cavity Protection covers a wider age range I can imagine that they can't make the packaging too childish.
Q4. I woukd recommend the toothpaste to parents with children who are a bit older

Thank you for the smiley charts. These are helping us to reinforce the importance of brushing properly twice daily.

lornagietzen · 04/04/2015 08:26

Thank you for the samples!

Q1. I liked the packaging and tube - the description of what the toothpaste did was good and exactly what I need for my family! My 4 year old is very fussy with toothpaste so I just put it on her brush without saying anything - she didn't like it and said it was too minty and hurt! My husband liked it but said it didn't leave his mouth as fresh as he would have liked. I agree with him, I can taste a bit too much of the bicarbonate for my liking.

Q2. Probably not - which is disappointing. I would for myself if it worked but my 4 year old will not try it again and my husband is getting fed up with the tube as it's hard to get out - because he never puts the lid back on! We use Colgate generally but they didn't like it enough to change!

Q3. The packaging and the sugar acid neutraliser - as a parent we worry about the amount of sugar the girls have! They didn't like the taste that much.

Q4. Not sure if I would recommend it to others? What it does is great but the taste really put us off. There was nothing wrong with it but mouth didn't feel as fresh after.

Thanks

Q1. What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?

Really nicely packaged, and nice, thick texture. My teeth felt sparkly clean afterwards but the taste is a little odd. I think its a bit chalky, as opposed to that sharp mint that I would usually expect from toothpaste. So, my mouth didn't feel as sparkly clean. That's the upshot.

Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste? I would buy it again if it was on offer. I don't think I'd go out of my way otherwise

Q3. What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)? Loved the packaging, really didn't like the taste.

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?. Yes, but I would feel obliged to point out the slight odd taste

BigfootFilesHisToesInYourTea · 05/04/2015 10:04

Just popping back on with a question...

I was reading the back of the tubes, and both the adult and the kids versions have exactly the same usage instructions on the back for children aged 6 and under, and exactly the same active ingredient in exactly the same quantity/ppm. So is the only difference between the kids toothpaste and the adult toothpaste the taste?

If that's the case then I probably wouldn't bother buying the kids one, I'd just buy one tube for all of us to use.

dania66 · 05/04/2015 14:08
  1. The packaging is appealing, it's bright and different to others, the taste is fresh and our teeth feel clean after brushing.
  2. Yes I would. I like the fresh aftertaste.
  3. My son said it tastes nice.
  4. Yes I would recommend it to others. It looks unique and has great benefits.
IWasThere4Aug12 · 05/04/2015 17:10
  1. overall impression I didn't mind it but DH didn't like the chalky taste and I do prefer my toothpaste to have a more powerful minty taste
  2. Probably not-too expensive but may buy it it if it's on special offer. I'd want to understand more about what makes it different to/better than other toothpaste and therefore worth the money in which case I may swap, especially for the DC
  3. DC really loved the taste
  4. probably not the adult one because of the chalky taste. May recommend the kids one but I'd want to understand more about what makes it different
katyk81 · 05/04/2015 23:33

Q1 Overall we liked the toothpaste and the fact that it acts a a Sugar Acid Neutaliser- both the kids eat a lot of fruit and I am a bit of a chocoholic so this is a bit of extra reassurance for us. Both my husband and I felt there was quite a strong after taste but not too unpleasant so not a big problem. He did say it had a slightly grainy texture, which to my mind reminded me of baking soda so presumably has a cleansing effect.

Q2 Yes I would replace our existing toothpaste with this as it left teeth feeling clean and breath fresh but I would probably purchase when on offer. I would definitely buy the children's one as after the first day there were no comments at all about the taste and they have just got on and cleaned their teeth with no fuss.

Q3 My son (7) liked the taste- he said it was 'clean' and because he has had some issues with his teeth (one grew funny and as a result left a gap in it which meant he picked up an infection) he is very keen to keep his teeth clean. He felt this was quite grown up. My daughter (3) initially said she didn't like the taste but quickly forgot about that and has allowed us to brush her teeth with no issues. My daughter especially liked the sticker charts- as being a second child she hasn't needed this for tooth brushing as it is just habit, but she has enjoyed the chance to make it a bit special.

Q4 Yes I would recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents, lots of children we know enjoy plenty of fruit and juices and I think this would be beneficial to them too so would happily recommend the product if teeth/ dentist visits etc came up in conversation.

Azra12 · 06/04/2015 04:10

Q1. What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?

It had a great taste. Wasn't too minty. I was expecting it to be somewhat different to my usual toothpaste but was happy to find that it was very much similar.

Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?

Yes. As it has a lot more benefit than my usual toothpaste

Q3. What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)?

My daughter (aged 7) was very pleased to see that the adult and child toothpaste packaging was very similar. She loved the purple packaging as it was different to and the first time she had seen it. She did like the taste and after the first time she used it said it tasted like her "favourite chewing gum"

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?

Definitely. With its additional benefits I don't think you can go wrong

thewomaninwhitefluffybunnyears · 06/04/2015 20:57

Just popping back to say that I am still using it and really liking it. DDs have given up as really dislike it sadly. DH also likes it and appreciates the minty flavour.

leccybill · 06/04/2015 22:31

I'm just popping back to add another comment.
DD left the top off the kids one last night and the toothpaste was rock hard this morning, took lots of twisting and squeezing to 'unblock' it. A flip-top lid would be much preferred. I guess that goes for the adult one too.

TitchyPumpkin · 06/04/2015 22:58

What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
i like the packaging, although I agree with pp who says a filp-top lid would be better. I was a bit unsure at first as taste is a lot milder than I'm used to but I got used to it. I like the concept a lot as acid is a worry when it comes to teeth, but I'm not sure 2 weeks is long enough to know how effective it is. The texture was grainier than I'm used to but did make my teeth smooth and clean feeling afterwards.

Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
Yes I probably would. I would definitely switch to it permanantly if they brought out a version which whitened teeth too, as my teeth need a whitening toothpaste ideally.

What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)?
My daughter loves the purple packaging but didn't like the taste too much compared to her usual toothpaste. I will perservere and try and convince her to keep using it though as she does eat a fair bit of fruit.

Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?
Yes I would.

Thank you for the trial.

winterland · 07/04/2015 02:21

First impressions - I liked the packaging, stylish and I liked the shape of the tube. Not that easy to distinguish between the child's and the adults toothpaste.

I found it slightly thicker than my other toothpaste which is also Colgate Max white. I didn't really notice any difference in flavour but my children did. They didn't really like this one.

I would buy it again particularly if had whitening in it too.

PuzzleRocks · 07/04/2015 15:18

Leccybill - we found had that with both our tubes. I am as rubbish as the children for replacing the lid.

Fluffyemenent · 07/04/2015 20:40

I liked the colour of the tube and the kids seemed to like it too. I don't like aggressively minty toothpaste and neither do the kids so this went down really well in our house. I am planning to replace our previous toothpaste with this one as it is the first minty toothpaste mine have agreed to use (fed up of the silly flavoured kids ones!)

I like that fact you can't really tell the kids from the adult one as we are a no fluoride area in the water so we are supposed to use the adult ones on the kids.

nerysw · 07/04/2015 21:23
  1. Overall, we (mainly) all liked it. I was a bit unsure about it at first as the adult version has a slightly aniseedy taste to it and it took me a few days to get used to it. The children were divided on this though. They both tried the kids version and my 3 year old hated it and refused to clean his teeth with it (he even missed out on a bedtime story he was so adamant about it). My 5 year old was quite happy with it. They (and I) liked the purple but the fact that the paste itself was white was something they found a bit boring and disappointing. Girl-child has been cleaning her teeth quite happily with it (see photo) and loved the chart which came with it. A free printable of this chart on the Colgate website would be great. Boy-child will now use it, but only if I put a bit of blue other toothpaste with it. He cares not for the chart. It's the taste he objects most to, which is odd as he doesn't mind other minty toothpastes.

Q2.
Possibly for me, although I prefer whitening toothpastes. Doubtful for the kids.

Q3. The purple pack and one of the LOVED the chart.

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?
Maybe

Overall impression of toothpaste is very good it tastes good, is pleasant to brush teeth with and afterwards teeth feels much cleaner too.

Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?

As it is recommended to switch toothpastes after some time(can't remember why) I probably will replace my regular one with Colgate, cavity protection and sugar neutralisation sounds good but how good it is in reality my dentist will tell me after some time.

Q3. What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)?

My son,he is nearly 6, liked texture, minty but at the same time not too strong taste and he loved packaging, looks cool and bright enough to notice on shelves.

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?
Yes,I would definitely recommend this toothpaste and would buy it again.

SweetPeaPods · 08/04/2015 04:28

Q1. Overall impression good. Left my teeth lovely and clean feeling. I wasn't so keen on taste, I prefer my toothpaste with a stronger mint taste. Quite thick too so needs a good squeeze to get out tube.
Q2. Don't think I will change from my usual Colgate or oral B due to taste.
Q3. Ds1 really liked it.
Q4. Yes I would recommend.

BigfootFilesHisToesInYourTea · 08/04/2015 18:31

Popping back again (again!) to say I've had a bit of sensitive teeth returning so have started alternating with my sensitive toothpaste.

Also agree a flip-top lid would be preferable.

Ren1974 · 08/04/2015 18:54

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?

Yes but first I would like the dentists opinion of the improvement in my sons teeth

Q1. What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?

I would when it was on offer, but it is a lot more expensive than I would usually pay for toothpaste.

Q1. The packaging was eye catching & looked like a premium product. I didn't like the taste at first, I thought it tasted like artificial sweetner, but I got used to it. I liked the idea of a sugar acid neutraliser toothpaste.
