This feedback thread is for the 250 Mumsnetters, who have participated in the Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste product test with their DCs.

Here’s what Colgate says: “Did you know that 84% of children and all adults suffer from cavities at some point in their life*?

“Cavities, also known as tooth decay, are the most common chronic disease on the planet.
But cavities are preventable and this is why Colgate® has created a breakthrough new anti-cavity toothpaste called Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid NeutraliserTM.

“Providing close to double protection against early decay**, Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection is the first and only toothpaste to contain Sugar Acid NeutraliserTM technology, that goes beyond the protection of fluoride, neutralising sugar acids in plaque – the #1 cause of cavities.

“Colgate’s Head of Scientific Affairs, Foti Panagakos comments:
“More and more we’re aware of the increasing levels of sugar in our diets and the negative impact this has on our health. The need for a toothpaste with built in Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ technology has never been so urgent. Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ will have a tremendous impact on the oral health of the nation.””

*UK Adult Dental Health Survey 2009, The Health and Social Care Information Centre
** Toothpaste with fluoride alone reduced by 32%

Q1. What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
Good. Liked that it neutralises sugar. Thought the packaging was attractive. My teeth felt incredibly smooth and clean after brushing with this. The taste was not overpowering either.

Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
Yes, we are going to. We have been on a tight budget and toothpaste has been an easy win as you can buy value brands for under 50p...but using this has made us realise how effective a branded toothpaste is.

Q3. What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)?
Only one DC was old enough to try this and I'm afraid she didn't like the taste. She is used to the fruit flavoured toothpastes. I wouldn't take this as a slight against the product as she is incredibly fussy! She loved that the packaging was the same as the adult toothpaste.

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?
Yes, if they asked for recommendations.

VikingLady · 30/03/2015 19:39

Q1. What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?

The adult one was ok but my teeth didn't feel as clean as they do after using my usual toothpaste. The child one seemed fine, but my daughter isn't really old enough to tell me what she thinks other than "yum"

Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?

Not the adult version. The children's version - yes, if it was better value than the usual one.

Q3. What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)?

Taste. She prefers the packaging of her usual toothpaste as the tube is more colourful!

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?

Not really, as I couldn't see any added benefit to using it.

WeeMadArthur · 30/03/2015 20:19

Q1. What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
It looks like a high quality product. It took me a few days to get used to the licquorice taste, DS prefers the minty taste of his old toothpaste.

Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
I might buy it again if it was on offer.

Q3. What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)?
DS liked the packaging but didn't really like the taste, even though we bribed him with a new Spider-man electric toothbrush!

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?
Yes, if their DCs are happy with the taste it has good benefits.

YouMeddlingKids · 30/03/2015 20:23

Q1. What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
Smart packaging, I liked the screw top lid although DH didn't for some reason. Tasted... unusual! Called mint but more like aniseed. Didn't like it the first couple of times but it's grown on me.

Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
If it was on offer, I'd probably buy it again. I don't have loyalty to any toothpaste brand, tend to buy whats on offer.

Q3. What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)?
DS liked the packaging and liked that it looked like a mini version of my toothpaste. Again, he didn't like the taste the first time but hasn't complained since so I guess he got used to it.

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?
Maybe, if we were talking about fruit acid and dental erosion.

miluth · 30/03/2015 20:59
  1. First impressions of toothpaste and packaging very good. I like the lid as it means I could stand up the tube (little things!) I liked the taste of the toothpaste and it left my teeth feeling clean.
  1. I probably would consider this toothpaste if it was one of those on offer.
  1. Both of my DDs were excited by new toothpaste and were keen to try it. My 6 year loves it and loves that it leaves her mouth "minty fresh" but my 3 year old hates the taste of it as too strong for her.
  1. Yes would definitely recommend as all parents I know are worried most about sugar and filings when it comes to their childrens' teeth.
Osquito · 30/03/2015 21:30

Q1. What was your overall impression?
Liked the idea behind it, I enjoy lots of fruit and desserts (neither of which I plan on cutting down on!) but would like to minimise the damage if possible. Was also glad it wasn't too different/horrible-tasting, which was something I feared.

Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste?
If it was on offer, I would probably stock up but think it is too expensive for me otherwise.

Q3. What did your DCs like most?
It looked like our (grown ups) one!

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?
Yes. When you find it more and more difficult to watch what your kids are eating, perhaps during school or when out, then it's nice knowing you can do a bit of damage control by using this toothpaste which is specifically targeting sugars etc.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 30/03/2015 21:30

Q1. What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
Overall, I liked it. I like the acid neutraliser aspect. At first I thought the taste was less minty than I'm used to so not as nice, but it's grown on me. It's has a smooth and frothy texture when brushing, which was odd initially, but it leaves my teeth feeling clean.
Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
Yes, depending in price. I wouldn't pay extra for it.
Q3. What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)?
Liked the purple colour and the chart (although I have been asked more than once what the reward us when the chart is all filled in)
Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?
Yes.

Jcee · 30/03/2015 21:38

Q1 - a recognisable brand and I liked the concept of the product. A nice tasting toothpaste and my teeth felt really clean afterwards.

Q2 - I'm a bit of a toothpaste tart and tend to be driven by price, so I think that would be a big factor for me. But having tried it and know I like the taste, if the price was OK I would buy it

Q3. DD loved the purple packaging & liked that it looked like the grown ups version. Was a bit unsure of the taste initially but used it with no issues.

Q4. Yes I would

Prophetsong · 31/03/2015 05:29

Thanks for including me in this trial. My feedback is below:

Q1. What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™?

Overall very positive. Liked the look and taste and the idea of sugar acid neutraliser is really appealing as it makes me feel less stressed about the occasional sugary treat for me or my children.

Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?

Possibly, although I currently use a whitening toothpaste and would be quite reluctant to stop using that entirely but might use this toothpaste at night, depending on price.

Q3. What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)?

The metallic packaging (my 7 year old thought it looked 'grown up' which he really liked) and the smell. He was less keen on the taste as he said it was 'too strong' and very minty but has persevered anyway.

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?

Yes.

MetallicBeige · 31/03/2015 06:33

Q1. What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?

The packaging is attractive, my dc loved that their toothpaste looked just like the grown up version. The taste is good and it left my teeth feeling super clean. My mouth felt nice and fresh afterwards without needing a mouthwash.

Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?

We use Colgate as a brand anyway so maybe if the price is reasonable.

Q3. What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)?

Dc1 liked the taste and said it made her teeth feel "zingy". Dc2 didn't like the taste so refused to use it, he's gone back to Colgate Total, he is a bit of a fusspot though.
Dc1 liked that the packaging was similar to the grown ups. She said it coated all of her teeth and made her mouth feel fresh.

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?

Probably, my dc eat lots of fruit (and sweet treats) and I am a bit obsessive over dental care for them. If it came up in conversation I might mention it.

Thank you for the samples, we enjoyed trying them out. The dc love the brushing charts and race to do their teeth so they can fill them in.

MTBMummy · 31/03/2015 08:53

Q1. What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
I like the look of the packaging, it stands out from the normal blue/green that most toothpastes conform to. I like the taste, as did DP, but he commented it was very "foamy"

Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
I would, we both eat a lot of fruit, so I like the benefit of the Sugar Acid Neutraliser, although it would depend on the cost

Q3. What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)?
DD loved the packaging, and loved that it looked like a mini version of ours, but she really wasn't keen on the taste saying it was too minty and hurt her mouth.

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?
Definitely, and the neighbor we gave the rest of the kids tube to, says her daughter loves it and will be buying it again.

sealight123 · 31/03/2015 09:19

Q1. What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
Love it. Nice packaging and fresh minty taste. I use mouthwash after each brushing. Usually with other toothpastes you feel it necessary to use mouthwash as it doesn't feel it has cleaned it all. It is not necessary with this toothpaste. (I still used the mouthwash though :P)

Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
Definitely. I'm planning to.

Q3. What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)?
My daughter is 3. She loved that the packaging was like mummy and daddy's toothpaste as it made her feel grown up.She liked the taste as we find that some toothpastes for kids are overpowering (too minty) or they make it taste like ridiculous sweet flavours. She said 'its good minty not too too minty' :)

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?
It depends on the child but I would :)

mumsbe · 31/03/2015 09:27

Q1. What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
The tooth paste was not too strong nice packaging and a good idea

Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
Yes I would

Q3. What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)?
She liked the packaging and the fact that it was not too strong. She also like the way it made her mouth feel

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?
Yes I would my daughter has really enjoyed the taste and the way it makes her mouth feel

createbeauty · 31/03/2015 09:44

Q1. What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
A1. A great new product from a trusted brand. I feel more confident that my family's oral hygiene is the best it can be.

Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
A2. Yes, definitely!

Q3. What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)?
A3. My three-year-old son liked that his toothpaste looked like a smaller version of my toothpaste. He also said his mouth feels really clean after using his new big boy toothpaste.

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?
A4. I would recommend it because it makes me feel a bit better knowing I'm doing all I can to take the best care of my family's dental hygiene.

SmilingandWaving · 31/03/2015 10:53

Q1. I thought it tasted nice but it was quite chalky, I keep ending up with bits left around the edges of my lips no matter how well I think I've rinsed it off. It's also a pain to scrub off if it doesn't get rinsed out of the sink. Seems to clean my teeth as I'd expect from a toothpaste though.

Q2. No probably not, it's quite expensive and DH doesn't like it due to the chalkiness.

Q3. DS (4yrs) absolutely hates it, the first (and only) time he tried it there were actual tears. He usually pretty good at brushing his teeth but he just really disliked the taste, he said it was too strong. I haven't been able to get him to try it again despite bribery.

Q4. No probably not, although maybe for older children who might not mind the taste so much. I still think it's incredibly expensive for such a small tube as well, we normally spend £1 on 100mls of the standard colgate or whatever happens to be on offer, I've seen this for sale for £4 for 75mls!!!

hebrideanprincess · 31/03/2015 12:53

Q1. Overall impression was good, no issues for me and child seemed to like his too!

Q2. Probably not due to how expensive it is. If it was on offer then I would definitely pick this over other brands.

Q3. He liked that we were using the same kind of toothpaste rather than the different ones we usually had but didn't really have much comments regarding taste, texture etc

Q4. I would if it came up in discussion.

YerTiz · 31/03/2015 13:07

Q1. What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?

Packaging is nice - me and 4yo liked the purple, bit different from other toothpastes.

4yo was excited to give it a go but unfortunately really didn't like the taste of the kids one so we only managed one attempt. I thought he was just being fussy but actually it took me a week or so of using the adults one to get used to the taste - it's quite strong and a bit, aniseedy?

I don't mind it now though and my teeth are nice and clean Grin. I know I had one tooth my dentist was watching for a cavity so I'll be interested to see what happens at my next checkup in June.

Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?

Possibly, depending on price and outcome with dentist.

Q3. What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)?

Packaging. As mentioned above he hated the taste, sorry!

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents

I like the concept but my son wouldn't use it because of the taste, so unfortunately not. I also feel a bit conflicted about whether it's worth using the amount of chemicals in toothpaste to prevent decay, or whether I should be using something more organic for me and my family (but perhaps risking more tooth issues?!)

Interrobang · 31/03/2015 13:10

Q1. What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
I liked it well enough, tasted fresh and made my teeth feel clean, but then I do think most toothpastes do. Impossible to tell if it actually works re neutralising sugar acid and reducing chances of getting fillings.

Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
I have a few toothpastes on the go at once, but yes, we'd include it.

Q3. What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)?
Son loved the purple packaging, but was sad the toothpaste wasn't glittery purple. He did not like the taste.

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?
It's a toothpaste. How much recommending can you do. I'd recommend people try all sorts til they found what they liked. Husband and I liked this one fine though.

rm95 · 31/03/2015 14:03

My little boy isn't keen on the childrens one, he is getting used to it now but finds the minty taste too strong. That said, he is getting used to it now. I am keen for him to carry on using it as he eats about 5 portions of fruit a day.
Myself and the hubby like the adult one, leaves teeth feeling clean and fresh

MaryannM · 31/03/2015 15:21

Thank you for choosing us to trial this Colgate toothpaste. Here are our thoughts:-

Q1. The overall impression in our household is wholly positive. We all liked the flavour and how clean our teeth felt after brushing.

Q2. Personally I was very surprised by the price. Based purely on that I probably won't be changing the adult toothpaste in our household (unless I find it on offer). The kids however really prefer this toothpaste over any other one we have tried so, this will become their regular toothpaste.

Q3. One of the main things my DCs liked the most is that their toothpaste tube looks like the adult toothpaste! They also love how 'foamy' it is and the taste.

Q4. I would recommend this toothpaste, particularly for its cavity protection and sugar acid neutraliser.

Thanks again :-)

snowymum12 · 31/03/2015 18:00

Q1 I really like the toothpaste. It definitely gives a better 'clean' feeling than other toothpastes I've used. The sugar acid neutraliser aspect also really appeals. My daughter didn't like the texture of the toothpaste compared to her regular brand but I felt that it was a quality product.

Q2 I would definitely replace my current brand with the product. It just feels better quality.

Q3 my daughter didn't like the toothpaste because of the texture and the fairly strong minty taste (in comparison to her current toothpaste). As with other testers, I'm continuing to encourage her to use it due to the benefits of the paste.

Q4 I'd definite recommend the toothpaste to other parents.

madmumm · 31/03/2015 18:26

Q1. What was your overall impression of Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
All 3 of us that used the toothpastes found the packaging attractive and distinctive with its purple design, the lid was slightly annoying, a flip top would have been easier on both adults and childrens toothpastes. Both adults liked the minty fresh taste, not too strong, just right. My 6 year old found the children's toothpaste too minty as other toothpastes he uses are milder. Really like the sugar acid neutralising aspect too.

Q2. Would you replace your regular toothpaste with Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ toothpaste?
Yes, but it would depend on price, I'm guessing that it will be fairly pricey as it is a unique product. If it was affordable I would definitely buy it for all the family.

Q3. What did your DCs like most about Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ Kids toothpaste (such as taste, texture, packaging)?
Good texture, nice and foamy and attractive purple colour to packaging.

Q4. Would you recommend Colgate® Maximum Cavity Protection plus Sugar Acid Neutraliser™ to other parents?
Yes, it's a great all rounder toothpaste.

J3nnifer · 31/03/2015 19:05

Q1 - Liked the packaging and taste, although used to a much more minty toothpaste. Packaging will really stand out, particularly next to other children's toothpastes. Teeth felt really clean afterwards. As others have said, flip top packaging might be better than screw top.

Q2 - Possibly, if it was on offer.

Q3 - Kids loved that their toothpaste was just like our one, said it was very "grown up". Seemed foamier than their usual toothpaste which they liked.

Q4 - Yes, would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

Snafu33 · 31/03/2015 19:12
  1. Good overall impressions. I like the selling point & the packaging. The taste is good.

  2. Yes-we use Colgate so depending on the price of this item we could happily switch to it

  3. Liked the taste-not too strong but still an actual 'flavour' & loved the purple packaging.

  4. Yes I would be happy to recommend. This seems like a good product that if it does what it claims to could be a great benefit!

monkeyplastic · 31/03/2015 20:17
  1. Overall impressions were good, great packaging and great taste
  1. I would consider as my family eat a lot of fruit and I worry about acid erosion
  1. My little one enjoyed the milder flavour
  1. Yes dependent on the price
