my 2.5 year old son is only 86.5cm tall. Is this short or average?

my dd was the same height and that put her on the 25th percentile on the wretched growth charts. Not too sure what it is for boys, if i could find my red book I'd look it up for you, have you checked yours?

The rule of thumb is that at 2.5yo you are roughly half your adult height, having said that, all my family were smaller than average until puberty and then shot up with impressive growth spurts (except me!!!) and all are taller than their mums and in the case of the boys, their dads too once they get to about 15.

or I've sometimes heard that children grow to the average height of the parents plus 1 inch.

So to cut a long story short...pardon the pun.... try not to worry about his height.
