[EDITED BY MNHQ: Questions have now been collated and sent over - new questions may not be answered]

Hello all,

We’re very pleased to announce a Q&A with Penny Mordaunt MP, Secretary of State for International Development and Minister for Women and Equalities.

Please post your questions on this thread by lunchtime on Wednesday March 6. We’ll send on a selection to the Minister and we will post up written answers from Penny on this thread this coming Friday (March 8), International Women’s Day.

In her role as Secretary of State for International Development, Penny Mordaunt oversees DFID’s work ending extreme poverty overseas, including programmes focused on girls’ education and women’s health. DFID has been in the news recently, facing calls for its budget to be spent partly on encouraging projects that would aid British business overseas, and for it to be folded into the Foreign Office instead of being a standalone department.

In her role as Minister for Women and Equalities, Penny is also responsible for work including gender pay gap reporting and possible changes to the law concerning gender recognition.

Penny campaigned for Brexit in the run-up to the 2016 EU referendum and is a Royal Naval Reservist. She has previously been Minister of State for Disabled People and Minister of State for the Armed Forces.

Please add your questions for Penny here by Wednesday lunchtime. And although it’s not a live webchat please stick to the spirit of our webchat guidelines and keep it civil.

If one topic is overwhelmingly dominating responses we might request that people don't continue to post what's effectively the same question or point. Rest assured we will ALWAYS make the recipient aware that it's an area of concern to multiple users and will encourage them to engage with those questions.

Thanks
Justine

Nb existing members will be able to post on this thread. Thanks.

Cismyfatarse1 · 14/03/2019 19:22

But someone in her office had to type out my username which is making me chortle so much.

Smotheroffive · 14/03/2019 19:24

Yes Toe
It seems that, the tavistock, panaroma, prison service,
Are more intelligent, enlightened, and in touch with reality than the woman who's in name.only responsible for protecting women s rights

I wonder was msp Joan, will be thinking about this carry on.

ToeToToe · 14/03/2019 19:28

Ooh I love MSP Joan - but damn, things are bad in Scotland and she's the first to speak out.

The word woman literally has no meaning legally anymore in Scotland.

HermioneWeasley · 14/03/2019 19:33

She is ridiculous and disgraceful. How ducking DARE she patronise us with such bullshit waffle.

OvaHere · 14/03/2019 19:36

Did anyone post sports questions or did she avoid those despite it being a hot topic?

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 14/03/2019 19:36

What on earth was the point of that????

sackrifice · 14/03/2019 19:39

But someone in her office had to type out my username which is making me chortle so much

It is literally the only good thing about the whole debacled shit show.

Vixxxy · 14/03/2019 19:40

Also, she 'answered' a sports question with more waffle about other people deciding the rules.

OvaHere · 14/03/2019 19:42

Thanks I missed that one.

Smotheroffive · 14/03/2019 19:45

Did anyone post sports questions or did she avoid those despite it being a hot topic? she launched that hot chestnut over to the 'sports world'

Smotheroffive · 14/03/2019 19:46

Oops! X-posted

Dyrne · 14/03/2019 19:46

Thank you for answering my question, Penny. I’m chilled to learn that apparently basic background checks were not being done on aid workers; and that some individuals are apparently known for floating around from charity to charity to further abuse women; and that nothing was being done about this until recently.

Interesting that the government are content to rely on the outcome of the WWF initiated “independent” review - despite evidence that WWF quashed the results of a similar “review” a couple of years ago.

@MNHQ , is Penny taking follow up questions as per MN guidelines? (Though I suspect I know the answer given that the initial response is nearly a week late...)

ToeToToe · 14/03/2019 19:53

Dyrne, Penny provided a woefully poor answer to your very good question. I read it open-mouthed. Hmm

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 14/03/2019 19:55

Better start burning those biology books.

Disgraceful.

UnderHerEye · 14/03/2019 19:58

Just so I’m clear- the Woman and Equality’s Minister has just confirmed that all single-sex based rights and protections are rendered completely meaningless as anyone can identify into being a woman?

endofthelinefinally · 14/03/2019 20:06

Well.
I am lost for words.
That was just awful.
Such ignorance.
Such contempt for women and girls.
No concern for vulnerable children.
Shocking.
Sad

Whatisthisfuckery · 14/03/2019 20:11

6 days delay for that crock of shit? Or, more accurately, it’s like waiting for a bus that’s 6 days late, then when it finally arrives, getting thrown under it.

Cheers Penny. Right back at ya kid.

HumberElla · 14/03/2019 20:11

Well I got as far as the KW answer and had to stop.

I mean how do you answer that question without standing up for the actual women at risk? Without mentioning the terrible wrong done to those women in the name of self ID?

What sort of person states we to be sensitive to needs of suicidal and rapist males without even addressing the women who are responsible for neither but forced to accommodate them anyway, just as their gender validation?

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 14/03/2019 20:12

Well, it’s very clear now why she didn’t want to talk to us live. It’s the same tactic Stonewall, McKinnon etc use to avoid debates.

Thanks for trying, MNHQ.

Datun · 14/03/2019 20:17

You got it.

Shoved the prison stuff over to the MOJ, shoved the sports stuff over to the IOC.

Said transwomen are women, but not in terms of Parliamentary representation, because that has to reflect how many transwomen there are, because they're not actually women.

An absolute shit show and and an embarrassment.

When women like Sharron Davies, Martina Navratilova, Kelly Holmes and Jean McAlpine grasp it instantly, you have to wonder what on earth qualifies you to be an equalities minister.

You also have to wonder about them not temperature checking the public on this.

Well, they can't say they weren't warned.

endofthelinefinally · 14/03/2019 20:21

My MP is conservative.
I shall be writing to her again.
I can't believe this is the calibre of someone who is supposedly intelligent enough to be running the country.
We pay their salaries.
