The Hairy Bikers have gone veggie! And on Wednesday (10 May) at 1pm we’ll be live on air for a Facebook live with Si and Dave as they talk us through their decision to go meat-free and share some of their recipes from their new book: The Hairy Dieters Go Veggie.

The book is the fifth in the multi million selling Hairy Dieters series. With brilliant meat-free recipes, Si and Dave prove that going veggie doesn’t mean you have to cut out your favourite foods.

During the Facebook live we'll be asking them to talk us through some of their recipes and asking them how we can adapt some classic recipes to make them meat-free. We’ll also be putting your questions to the Bikers, so do login. Everyone who likes the Mumsnet Facebook page and comments will be entered into a draw to win a SIGNED copy of the book.

If you're unable to join live, post your comments and questions on this thread and we'll do our best to put them to Si and Dave during the interview.

Oh I am so excited to read this. I am the biggest fan of the Hairy Dieters books. I've just lost 4 stone and a large part of that is thanks to Si and Dave and their fantastic recipes. They are GODS in this house Grin

This book comes at a good time for me and me and my DD(17) were discussing last night that we'd like to reduce our meat consumption.

My question: what's the key thing to do to ensure a veggie diet is nutritionally balanced. I would worry about not eating enough protein.

Mustang27 · 09/05/2017 12:56

Oooo excited

Lotsawobblybits · 09/05/2017 13:37

The Hairy Dieters Books are great, I'm a big fan (in many senses Grin) I have also lost a lot of weight following the recipes and plans in the books. If anyone asks I am always recommending them, everything is easy to make and really tasty.

My question would be if Si & Dave have any tips on keeping yourself motivated when you have a lot of poundage to lose. How do they keep things interesting without dieting becoming a bore?

cowgirlsareforever · 09/05/2017 16:58

I am a big fan of your cooking and use your Hairy Dieters Books a lot.
I want to teach my two DS how to cook. Which recipes would you start them off on?

mateysmum · 09/05/2017 17:21

Really love the way Si and Dave make dieter's food like normal food - most of the time you can't tell the difference. I love their sweet n sour chicken and prawn curry recipes.

My question is:

I'm fine with veggie and often have veggie meals on the 5:2 diet, but DH isn't so keen on veggie meals. So do you have any ideas and recipes to persuade committed meat eaters that the occasional veggie meal can be a pleasure not a pain?

MycatsaPirate · 09/05/2017 18:07

I just want to know what bikes they have!

We have just bought a Yamaha Diversion 900, picking it up this week.

Want to know how often they are out on their bikes now they are so busy cooking!

Silvertap · 09/05/2017 18:54

My husband has lost
4 stone from your recipes - they're amazing. Full of flavour and the whole family love them.

Not sure he'll be so keen on a veggie book but I'll try!

Callmecordelia · 09/05/2017 19:17

I have lost 2.5 stone using their books - love them.

Iamastonished · 09/05/2017 21:44

I am looking forward to this. Will there be a TV series and a book signing tour?

LaLegue · 10/05/2017 12:35

I am a late comer to the HB books and TV shows, I sort of dismissed them in the early days as not being 'proper cooks' and I thought the 'hairy biking' thing was a gimmick, but eventually I bought one of their books. And then another, and another and I have them all now I think, except the diet ones but going by the comments on this thread I think I will buy those too! I bloody love their books, the recipes are spot on every time.

We had the Bang Bang Chicken Salad from Chicken and Egg last night and the sweet and sour chicken from that book is just divine.

I am interested in cutting down my meat intake so I will definitely be buying this book.

Faithless12 · 10/05/2017 12:45

Looking forward to hearing about these recipes.

Sturtle78 · 10/05/2017 12:53

My 9 yr old son has recently decided to go vegetarian (we've been vegan for just under a year) the one thing he says he misses is chicken drumsticks but he still won't eat them even though missing it would be great if you had anything similar I'm sure I've seen a recipe with cauliflower someone but can't find it. I think encouraging families to reduce their meat intake is fabulous keep up the good work

newbieho · 10/05/2017 13:12

Are there any vegetarian-type sausages that you are keen on? I found our they really vary, some of them are quite nice and others taste like cardboard.

FoofFighter · 10/05/2017 13:24

Will this be able to watch after the fact, trying to watch it live and it's stopping and starting and keep missing chunks :(

BitOutOfPractice · 10/05/2017 16:03

FoofFighter yes you can watch it now, I missed it because I was eating (a Hairy Dieter) lunch! Blush

cowgirlsareforever · 10/05/2017 16:32

How can I access this if I am not on Facebook?

FoofFighter · 10/05/2017 17:27

Thanks Bit!

Callmecordelia · 11/05/2017 06:35

Just managed to watch it all the way to the end, without children interrupting. They told me well done! I'm thrilled. Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 11/05/2017 07:20

Ooo CallmeCordelia I heard them mention you

Well done from me too!
