We’re thrilled to announce that Nadiya Hussain is joining us for a webchat on Wednesday (15 June) between 1 and 2pm when she’ll be taking your questions and telling us about her first book, Nadiya's Kitchen.

Over 15 million people tuned in to see Nadiya win 2015’s Great British Bake Off. Since then, she has captured the heart of the nation and is now a columnist for The Times and Essentials and a regular reporter for The One Show. Nadiya was commissioned to bake the Queen’s 90th birthday cake, which she presented to the Queen in person on the 21st April. In her first cookbook, Nadiya’s Kitchen, her focus is to deliver tasty meals quickly and she shares over 100 delicious recipes for all the family, from her famous bakes to simple suppers and snacks.

We have a SIGNED copy of Nadiya’s Kitchen up for grabs and everyone who joins the webchat will be entered into a draw. We’ll announce the winner at the end of the webchat. Do come and chat to Nadiya on Wednesday between 1 and 2pm or if you can’t join in then, post up your questions in advance on this discussion thread.

Hi Nadiya
How many orange drizzle cakes did you make before presenting her maj's? Crown
Who's your favourite Loose woman?
Are you still in touch with the very lovely Tamal?
Did you realise you had a beautifully expressive face (the gift that just kept gif-ing) until you saw the show?
Very pleased you won btw. Much deserved. Crown of the bake off. Shamrock with the books. x

Cookingongas · 14/06/2016 18:43

Hi nadiya,

Well done winning gbbo- much deserved. Can't wait for your book.

Id like to know who your favourite chef/ food author is and what is your favourite / most used cookbook?

Beeziekn33ze · 14/06/2016 19:32

Delighted at your success in the Great British Bakeoff - well deserved.
All good wishes xx

Thanks MNHQ for organising this! We're huge fans of Nadiya, I was so thrilled that she won.

Nadiya, congratulations on GBBO and everything that's happened since :) I would like to ask for your top tips on getting children involved in the kitchen. I have two girls aged 7 and 2, but whenever we try to bake together it ends up with flour everywhere and an argument over who gets to lick out the bowl!

WhispersOfWickedness · 15/06/2016 00:04

Oh my goodness, how exciting, I love you Nadiya! Along with everyone else on this thread, I cried when you won GrinYou are truly inspiring, an amazing woman Smile
Anyway, I can't be there tomorrow, so my question is: will you be watching Bake Off this year and will you be wishing it was you on there all over again, or will you be glad that you've been there and done that and that you don't have to do it again?!Grin

WhatKateBaked · 15/06/2016 10:38

Hello!

Your new book looks great, we've already made a few recipes that have been in The Times, a huge success with all the family!

My little girl is allergic to egg and dairy, any advice on alternatives you've found work well in cakes/sweet treats?

Thank you and all the very very best with the book!

LeonardoAcropolis · 15/06/2016 11:20

Hi Nadia, I'm another who was thrilled that you won!

Do you spend much time inventing and testing your own recipes? Do your children help?

notamummy10 · 15/06/2016 11:34

Hi Nadiya,

I was so thrilled when you won Bake-Off (I was one of the people who shed a tear or two), you deserved to win!

Out of the series, which was your favourite week and why?

Misspapia · 15/06/2016 12:02

Hello Nadiya,

As a Sylheti girl myself, I and my family are so proud of you! Flowers

I've ordered your book from Amazon as we love you so much Grin but one thing I'd love to know please is what is your favourite Sylheti dish/snack?

I wish you all the best with your book and look forward to trying out some of your recipes!Smile

Hygellig · 15/06/2016 12:17

Congratulations on winning GBBO - you were amazing. Do you find that you get recognized in the street? And do you have to bake lots of cakes for your children's school?

ailsasheldon · 15/06/2016 12:19

Hello, what fun suggestions do you have to introduce children to spicey food please

AliensInUnderpants12 · 15/06/2016 12:26

Congratulations on winning! My husband and I were really pleased as we were rooting for you!

I'm not a confident baker, cooking meals is fine but I've never been taught to bake. Have you got any idiot proof beginners recipes I could try as I recently made some shortbread biscuits and basic fairy cakes and my son had lots of fun!

NadiyaHussain · 15/06/2016 12:45

beginnersewer · 15/06/2016 12:50

I loved your cake with the fizzy drink can suspended in mid air - I thought it was really original and a lot of fun. Where did you get the idea?

RachelMumsnet · 15/06/2016 13:04

Nadiya is here and ready to answer your Qs (pic to come v shortly!) Welcome to Mumsnet Nadiya

Hi everyone,

Really looking forward to this - I can see some good questions already! Ask away!

beginnersewer · 15/06/2016 13:06

Hi Nadiya, congratulations on winning Bake off, definitely the right result!

NadiyaHussain · 15/06/2016 13:06

@iklboo

Hi Nadiya - we were so pleased when you won. I think I actually clapped!!

How much has your life changed since winning Bake Off and do you still get time to bake for pleasure?

Even though I bake for work now, I still bake for my kids everyday even if it's something as simple as a butter biscuit.

BeanyGodkin · 15/06/2016 13:07

hi!

When is it acceptable to use 'Stork' or other cheap cooking margerine instead of butter in baking when baking for sales/friends? Do you think it matters?

Thanks :-)

NadiyaHussain · 15/06/2016 13:08

@weebarra

My 8 year old son and I watch bake off together, it's our time together without his younger siblings. I find I want to take over/get cross with him for making a mess when we cook together. Do you know any foolproof recipes for us to do together?

The truth is, there will always be mess! If you're looking for something that creates less mess, there probably isn't a recipe like it in the world! But, I think biscuits or cookies are quick and easy and can all be done in one bowl, so less mess.

NadiyaHussain · 15/06/2016 13:10

@Yellowiceytek

Hello Nadiya,

I can't wait to get my hands on your book!

My question is, One of my kids hates all things vegetable, do you have any ideas of how to include veg into a meal, without hiding them. A different way of cooking, or herbs and spices that can enhance their flavour?
Thank you.

Your my favourite!

I would simply take a recipe that they love such as lasagne or sheperd's pie and add more veg to it. It's all trial and error but I wouldn't push too hard. Just little and often.

Misspapia · 15/06/2016 13:10

Sorry, I have another question;Blush

Would you ever consider doing a Sylheti cookbook (in English of course) for your British-Bengali fans? xx

cathymumof3 · 15/06/2016 13:11

What is your favourite thing to bake

NadiyaHussain · 15/06/2016 13:11

@cemay

Hi Nadiya!! As a Muslim woman, I was so pleased when you won (and made Mary cry!) and it's so refreshing to have Muslims represented as the normal people that we are! What's been the best thing that's happened for you and your family since your great win?

Well I get to this kind of stuff and talk to you lovely people so life has changed massively, but I am loving every single second!!!
