Hope this kind of thing is ok - here goes:
My friend D got in touch with me tonight. He lost his first son Sam some years ago; Sam had a debilitating congenital illness and spent much of his time in Acorn Childrens Hospice before he died.
There are three Acorns in the Midlands: Warwick, Walsall and Worcester. All are having to close beds at the moment and are desperately trying to appeal to the govt for increased funding. In the meantime, the hospices rely on charitable donations to carry on.
On 17th and 18th of June, D will be cycling from Warwick to Walsall and then on to Worcester. He's stopping over with us for the night before setting off again early the next day for Warwick. All in all it's about 100 miles and he's attempting to do it in 24 hours.
I wonder if any kind mumsnetters would be able to make a small donation to Acorns in recognition of D's cycle ride? I won't get into asking for sponsors online for obvious reasons, but if you feel you'd like to support D's efforts, maybe you could click on the link below and donate a bit online. Or maybe just spread the word to others that might also be interested and direct them to the Acorns website.
