Hi there,

As you may have seen, yesterday Justine sat down with Keir Starmer and Bridget Phillipson to ask them your questions - you can see how they got on here.

(We don’t have a transcript at the moment but will make one available as soon as we can)

Thanks,
MNHQ

What a missed opportunity and an absolute waste of time. He seems to think that children should be allowed to make irreversible medical decisions - but only with their parents’ consent. Which, if he’d seen the types of parents on social media who are hell bent on transing their kids, would realise this is not a good idea.
No substance on just how he would reform the GRA and he couldn’t even name the Equality Act 2010 properly.
Justine failed miserably to convey the strength of feeling among MNetters. A total wet lettuce of an interview.

He seems to be getting it slowly. The parental bit was washy - he knows there’s some bad parents out there. What we need the 4th time is some really specific questions asked that get to the nitty gritty. Like Sarah’s case and what she is going through just to get group support for women only. Can he make sure a person’s sex is recorded (not gender) as standard especially for health and justice reasons so medical research and crime statistics are meaningful.
I hope what happened behind the scenes is that Justine told them how many questions there were on women’s rights being eroded. And how many women (young ones too) are being turned off Labour but feel politically homeless.

I was disappointed with that, and not just because my question and several similar to it (about how they would protect freedom of expression and academic thought in universities) weren't asked, but the nice chummy light questions about biscuits and how much time he spent with his kids were. He dodged a lot of tricky questions - has he actually read the Cass Review? Neither he nor BP answered, although they were asked this directly. I also don't think the conversation as shown on the recording reflected the balance of questions on the thread at all. I hope they were given a printout to take away and consider.
