Hello
We know that this is something many of you really care about, so we thought we’d let you know about this petition about creating a UK asylum and resettlement route for Afghan women-at-risk, by from Action for Afghanistan and Zehra Zaidi who co-wrote this guest post last year. Here’s an extract:
“Under the Taliban, Afghan women and girls face draconian restrictions unlike anywhere else in the world. Women cannot work. They cannot move freely without a male guardian. They are forced to wear the burqa. Girls are denied education. Many Afghan women now face a direct threat to their lives from the Taliban because of their profile or the jobs they once did.
The overwhelming majority of those who have been granted resettlement under UK refugee resettlement schemes (ARAP and *ACRS) are men. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the UK’s Afghanistan exit policy would prioritise Afghan women and girls. However, one year on from Operation Pitting, there is still no specific legal asylum route for Afghan women-at-risk.”
