weight gain, getting a bump and foetal movement

Hi all - so I'm almost 16 weeks pregnant with twins and so far I haven't put on any weight and I haven't got a bump.

I lost approx 4lbs in the first trimester due to morning sickness (this was less than with my 2 previous singleton pregnancies when I lost double that) and although I haven't been sick for the last 3 weeks and I have been eating normally I still haven't put on any weight. I'm not showing at all either. If this was another single pregnancy I wouldn't even be thinking about this because I kept losing weight with my last 2 until 16 weeks and then when I did put weight on I only put on 20lbs in total each time. I didn't start showing until nearly 20 weeks either. I should say I was a normal weight before getting pregnant, although at the top end of normal (my bmi was 24.6)

I'm getting a bit worried - partly because of the lack of weight and bump (apparently I should have put on at least 5-8lbs so far!) and also because I haven't felt any movements yet. I felt my 1st child move at 18 weeks but my 2nd at only 14 weeks so getting to 16 weeks without feeling a thing in my 3rd is weird.

How did your weight gain go?
When did you start to get a bump?
When did you first feel movements?

i didnt show until 20 weeks and nobody commented on any weight gain before that, that said my bump wasnt huge until 34 weeks then i just ballooned, mainly water though as it all went within a week, except my tummy.
first movements at 18 weeks.

That's really reassuring cleopops - thanks. I'm honestly not a neurotic type, but I guess having had 2 healthy, straightforward singleton pregnancies and knowing how my body reacted to those, reading all the info on how things are expected to go with twins freaked me out a little!

I didn't put on any weight or have a bump and was still in normal clothes at 16 weeks and like you was getting worried. However suddenly at 17weeks I expanded, and although I haven't put on a huge amount of weight (not as much as the books suggest is normal for twins) I am enormous. And the scans show the babies are a fine size. Try not to worry too much about it, you'll be huge soon enough

don't get too worried about how big you 'should' be or how much weight you 'should' put on.
just eat right, have loads of water and be as active as you can,you are in the best part of your pregnancy and just as GibberingGinger said you will be huge before you know it!
Best advice i can give you is have your essential shopping done by about 27 weeks-i mean buggy etc. Twins don't always come early, little miss and mr cleopops arrived at 39 weeks,if they come early you are ready and if not you wont want to be traipsing round the shops with 2 kids and your huuuge tummy!

And you dont need 2 of everything!

Hi KRH,

if this is your 1st pregnancy then you won't show for a while. I am 18 wks into my 2nd pregnancy, twins this time, I look&feel HUGE compared to DS1 who never showed a bump til 20wks and came out at 9pounds plus (ouch). So don't worry and enjoy eating loads of whatever you want
