Best gift for arrival of twins?

Hi folks

I'm hoping some of you can help. Following years of heartache, my friend has just discovered that she is expecting twins! Yeah, three cheers all round!

As a new Mum myself I was completely overwhelmed by the generosity of friends when baby arrived. However many of the gifts, though beautiful, are now in boxes in the loft unworn because we simply got too many baby clothes.

So, my question is this; what would be a great gift idea for both Mum and babies? Does having twins make a difference to the gift(s) I should buy?

Many thanks in advance.

Meals for the freezer (some for one for when you need more than a sandwich to keep you going at lunchtime) or Tiny love mobile would get my vote. Also, for anyone reading this who doesn't have their own children to look after a voucher to be an extra pair of hands for the inevitable Dr's/health visitor appointments!

The Tiny Love mobile was brilliant for us. We've also used the Slumber Bear a lot (though not the bear, just the sound box inside: can't see the point of the cuddly toy bit).
The Baby Bjorn bouncy chairs are useful, but better with a Tiny Love "buggy arch" thing.

I think baby sitting vouchers would be fantastic. It is also brilliant to have someone come around and help with things in the early months after all the fuss has died down, especially inoculations.

londonlottie don't talk to me about the building work!! We move out tomorrow where we embark upon 2 wks house sitting for friends a 40 minute drive from here, then 2 nights at my parents, a week on holiday, a week with DH's mother 200 miles away, a week with my parents 100 miles away, then sleeping in the living room of friends 20 minutes away for approx another 2 weeks. We are effectively homeless until about late April... with 2 month old twins and a 3 yr old. Stressed? Me? Only slightly . It's been a nightmare - the worst winter in 30 years, we've lost LOADS of time and so it's nowhere near done. Roof supposedly will be on end of next week but I'll believe it when I see it. Honestly, the girls are a complete doddle and refuge from that!

Mine were born 35+6 in the end, so we were about the same! They are proving to be VERY identical. DH still can't tell them apart with confidence. To me they look like completely different babies but no one else can see it, so it must be a maternal thing. They are just gorgeous though, very happy sleepy little things (bar 3 hours of colic every night, but that doesn't seem to phase me as I know it'll pass - beauty of second babies! and it's still preferable to weeks of being bed bound in agony!).

I can see having twins first time round must be a bit of a shock to the system! Are things settling down now and you're doing ok?

A wonderful lady at church organised a food rota. My fridge and freezer were fully stocked. Another couple of friends came and cleaned the kitchen and bathroom. Wonderful.

My Postnatal Doula services have been bought for twin mums. I cook, help with feeding and generally let them know that having twins is a blessing, not the curse that others seem to want it to be iykwim!

Ok, I know this isn't really going to be a useful suggestion - but ... a maternity nurse!!
