Hi, I'm just wondering how much of things I'm going to initially need for twins in hospital?
My 1st labour for dd was in & out same day & thats whatI'd planned & packed for but this time I'm looking at everything & thinking do I just double up & plan for a couple of days?

Sorry for rambling, basically just want to know what essentials I will need?

.....ooh & I know babies size can't be predicted etc but what size baby clothes did you take?

I really am having an attack of pregnancy brain & can't seem to make any decision!

Unfortunately as we will all testify on here you will never know exactly what you need with twins until it happens. For every mum who delivered early there is another mum who went full term or more...read the other thread about the birth weights of twins...

It may depend on what type of twins you are having as apparently (big disclaimer here) non ids tend to stay in longer - I know this is a massive generalisation but I think when you are pregnant with twins you realise that nothing is set in stone so cling onto any scrap of possible information you can get!

So, what type are you having? Then I can make more sweeping statements!

I had my DTs five weeks early and brought in newborn babygros - WAAAAAAAY too big for them, and so DH had to go off and buy some early baby ones from mothercare. If they do have to stay in for any reason then you can always dress them in ridiculously big babygros and then use some of the clothes that SCBU get donated until you have a chance to get some of your own. That's what we did anyway.

I'd just bring LOADS of nappies, maybe a couple of packs of prem baby and a pack of newborn? We ended up being in for 10 days and I wish I'd packed more nappies. HTH.

I'm probably having non id twins - consultants words not mine!
Have bought a few early baby vests & babygro's - 3 each & the same of newborn size, with the thought that at least my mum could bring in more of whatever as dp seems to go blank whenever we step foot in mothercare!
I just feel completely out of my depth & its not helped by my midwife or consultant.

I will admit to being a bit of a control freak & like to know everything in advance but I'm trying to get used to the unknowns but the bags were the 1 thing I thought my list making obsession would come in handy for!!

Loving the probably bit...

Check out the hospital policy in SCBU...our unit supplied all nappies and also had vests and babygros if needed...but have heard that this is not the case in all places.

Have to say this, ignore the estimated weights when you are scanned...I am yet to meet anyone (single or multiple birth) whose weight information was right. (they claimed that my twins were both over 6lb the day before I went into labour, and they were 3 14 and 4 5) -

Don't open any packaging of vests or babygros cos that way you can take them back if you were way out!

Nappies - we only bought newborn size 1 nappies which were far to big to start but as I said luckily SCBU supplied premmie nappies and they moved into size 1 the day before they came home...

As for your DP, I found with mine that once the babes were born and he had specifics, he could go into mothercare etc and buy what was needed!

How pregnant are you?

This is interesting reading! now wondering if I've packed the wrong things - any advice? I'm having identical twins being delivered no later than 35+6 - if they carry on with current estimations that would make them approx 6.5/7lbs each - and my previous DS was a whopper at 12lb 12 (but 42 wks). I've packed two packs of newborn nappies - do you think I need a pack of premmie ones too? Also I have only packed newborn clothes but a friend has just today said she is going to give us all her tiny baby clothes, so DH can always bring some of them in I guess. Having the potential of small babies is such an alien concept to me I can't get my head round it!
