When were you forced to put your twins in separate cots?

Hi there, Just curious - when did you separate your twins if they were in the same cot initially? Mine are now 4 mos old and I suspect one howling and squirming wakes the other one up. My nursery is too small to accommodate two cots and single bed for me. But seems like a second cot might be inevitable in the near future. Would love to hear what other mums did.

hi there anjlix - i moved my DTS into separate cots at 6months purely because my DS kept crawling over my DD and waking her up. was worried that she might get smothered by him and sleep was very precious and dealing with one was easier than dealing with two at a time. i would have liked to have kept them together. they're 17months now and sometimes climb into bed together and fall asleep together. very cute. lots of kodak moments there!

5 mths because they were too big

Oh yes the size. I noticed that they were nearly outgrowing the width of the cot! I put them side by side as of now. I started doing feet to feet. Its kinda funny that they are now 3x the birth weight of 4lb

I have one in a cot and one in bed with me and dh. dt1 has a metal bar on his feet at night time to correct his club foot, so he couldn't share with dt2 anyway. Ideally I would have co-slept with both. they are nearly 2. Dt1 does sometimes come into bed, with me between the dts, but usually sleeps through in the cot.

Why do you need a single bed in the nursery?

anjlix · 08/04/2009 14:22

I guess I can move the single bed elsewhere. But it is handy when they won't settle in the early hours. I can crash there rather than making runs from my bedroom 10 times to check on them. I actually ordered a video monitor to avoid that so lets if that will work. This afternoon I am sure one of them woke up the other. Second cotbed is on its way!

I put mine in separate cots and in separate rooms from about 12 weeks. It is so good not having to rush in when one of them has a whinge, cos we know they are not going to wake each other. They never seem to have had a problem being apart (b/g twins)

RoobeeToozdae · 13/04/2009 21:36

My g/g twins shared a cot bed until 10mths old. They are in seperate cotbeds now but still in same room as us. We all sleep through the night

At about 14 weeks, purely because I could hear them hitting the side bars when they put their arms out...well also because when 1 was crying I would pick up the crier and that would wake the other 1 up!
We also started with a single bed in the nursery too, but after 3 months without anyone sleeping in it we decided to get rid of it to have more space.
