Recommendations for tandem or twin travel system for twins

Hi all,
I'm a new poster on MN and have 2/3 more weeks to go before the arrival of my twin boys.

My partner & I have yet to buy a pushchair. We have inherited 2 nearly new Maxi Cosi car seats - from family- so we thought of buying the Icandy Pear but they're SO expensive! Has anyone had one of these?

Does anyone have any suggestions for a) a rear-facing travel system that we can use the MC seats on; b) a cost-effective travel system

All suggestions welcome!

afaik the icandy is the only one that you can us the maxi cosi seats on.
but happy to be told otherwise by more the more pushchair knowledgable amongst us!!!

actually, I say that, the mountain buggy can have car seat attachments on so you could put them in that.
but it's more expensive than the icandy

Thanks for the suggestion.
We've ruled out the MB due to price although I kno its a fave of twin mums and comes highly recommended!
We've also considered the First Wheels but not sure if it can take 2car seats at once.

I know its preferable to have a rear facing pushchair - heard its good for their speech development- but finding it hard to find a cost effective solution!

What twin or tandem pushchairs do other twin parents use/have used since birth?

Any suggestions welcome!

No detailed advice I'm afraid but I wouldn't worry too much about the rear facing thing unless your dc are going to spend all day every day in the pushchair

twinmam · 27/02/2009 12:16

Could you get a MB on ebay? Or Icandy Pear for that matter? I do like my MB but do find it heavy and cumbersome for getting in and out of car so have another lightweight double to leave in car (from ebay - real bargain).

Mum2BeOfTwins0309 · 27/02/2009 14:54

@ IWish... So you don't think its necessary to have a rear facing buggy, no?

I am a driver- although not right now, pretty much housebound with all this extra weight I'm carrying lol - but am aiming to do a bit more walking after I give birth (to lose the above!) I don't expect that'd be realistic for a few weeks anyway

Icandy Pear buggy 2nd hand sells for almost as much as a shop bought 1 on Ebay
Not sure about MB prices- will check (thanks for suggestion)

Does/has anyone have the Graco quattro tour duo?

Mum2Be - it's really not the be all and end all as far as I'm concerned

thisisyesterday · 27/02/2009 19:47

this is what you need :D

I have one, just collected from a lovely mumsnetter in fact lol, and it's bloody fantastic!

EldonAve · 28/02/2009 08:45

my friend used a jane twin two - I think that would take the car seats
or you could go for a double maclaren

tryingtosleep · 28/02/2009 13:19

i have the jane powertwin - which is ace - as it's really easy to move around

you can use it from birth with the carseats - however it needs it's own carseats - (im not sure if it takes the maxi-cosi ones)
when the carseats are in it does face you, but not when you use it with the normal seats

I have also had the Jane powertwin with rebel carseats from the birth of my twins..(it doesnt take maxi cosi carseats).its hammered now but has been great..Also there are a lot on e-bay which is great well worth the expense of having to collect if you can find a good one..Mine was listed as used but must have only been used twice as immaculate and cost me a fraction of what it would have in the shops.Would have totalled at 600 with, pram, carseats and all the raincovers including carseat raincovers which are a must IMO. But mine was around 400 including all the carseats and raincovers etc so worth a look although a waste of the maxi cosi carseats so maybe worth splashing out oon the Icandy pear....

chellimum · 28/02/2009 22:45

Oh and they do have icandy pears on e-bay now too...good luck

poorbuthappy · 02/03/2009 15:10

I thought about this when pregnant as well...what pushchair could I use with 2 Mamas and papas car seats?
In the end I decided to get a seperate pushchair (the nipper 360) and leave the car seats in the car.
Best decision I ever made! I don't even have to park in big parking spaces because I am only getting the girls out of the car, rather than the massive car seats!

Also in 6 months time I won't be looking to buy a lightweight pushchair because the nipper SHOULD see me through.

As much as I would have loved a MB we simply couldn't afford it, but now I am well pleased with our choice!

Hey, I'm sure that there are people on this board who have horror stories about the nipper (as you find with all products and services) but its done us proud...

1stMrsF · 02/03/2009 16:04

I got the Nipper - decided to compromise on the rear-facing thing (you've got to compromise on something with twin pushchairs) and get something which ticked all the other boxes.

However, one which takes two Maxi-Cosi car seats which hasn't been mentioned so far is the EasyWalker DuoWalker. I really liked this, but found it a bit big for me (I'm 5'3"), but it is a very robust, good looking buggy with lots of flexibility (car seats/carry cots/pushchair seats) and not too wide for a side by side.
