over 40 double shock not only pregnant but it's non-dentical twins-

I am 41 years old and managed to get pregnant first attempt with my new husband and it's twins. I am happy but scared as I have had two small bleeds already (they were scanned as ok afterwards) is this normal in twins as I didn't have this with my 2 girls. Also I am not at all sick -which I was with my daughters from start to finish. Any ideas?

I had lots of little bleeds with both my pgs (not twins though) Was prob down to fibroids. All the best

Congratulations Neddie!

I was sick as a dog until 5 months (am now 25 weeks with non-id girls), but a friend who is also pg with non-id twins had no nausea at all, so nothing to worry about and I hope it lasts for you! Bleeds are very scary but they are often nothing to worry about, hopefully they will not happen again.

How far along are you?

I am only 6 and a half weeks- so long way to go. I forgot to mention that I have a farm and have been doing heavy lifting (I got in 180 bales of hay 2 weeks before my last baby arrived when I was 35) so perhaps that was something to do with it. I am now being tied down by my family so I don't do anything strenuous.

Good. Do rest - I have nothing to compare with as these are my first babies, but in talking to others the thing that does seem to be characteristic of a twin pregnancy is the tiredness and it's there from the beginning.

Congratulations! I had some light bleeds early on (whilst on a school trip to France with staff who didn't know I was pg) but all went well, til we moved house when I was about 33 weeks...the DTs duly arrived at 35 weeks, so keep away from those hay bales!

thanks for the encouragement. I am taking it steady now- I feel really good which is a good advert for us geriatric mothers. I have kept fit all my life (having a stud farm helps) and only weighed just under 9 stone when I fell pregnant which I hope is an advantage- as I am sure I'm going to pack the pounds on now!!! I have noticed that there are a lot of scare stories not only about twin pregnancies but also being an older Mum- I think this would worry me a bit more had I not already had 2 children born big and healthy.

Do ease up a little. Your body needs to be very, very busy and you must help it all you can if you want these babes to be healthy. How exciting!

We have a daily chat thread in here......usually starts with "d'y ever wonder...." do join us anytime. We have a bit of everything in there. Mums with massive families, young mums, older mums, triplets, twins, triplets and twins, mums who have lost children. Three things we all have in common (1) we have all had multiple births and (2) we all struggle at times and (3) we love laughing as much as we can.

Anytime.......

Congratulations neddie I am mum to 6 month old twin boys and as you can guess from my name I am 41 I too have older children, 3 girls and I can say that I was convinced I was carrying at least 1 girl as all my symptoms were the same as my previous pregnancies, but no at twenty week scan all was revealed, quite litterally, as they said at scan they were not shy in coming forward, 2 boys please take the opertunity to rest as much as possible as when they arrive there will be plenty to do.
I hope things go well for you despite all the worrying I'm sure you will do, as did I but in the end delivering 2 very healthy babies at 37 weeks 7lb 1oz and 5lb 13oz.
take each day as it comes and enjoy it as much as possible

wow they were big! I do get a bit down sometimes as Mr Neddie is in Germany most of the time(economic reasons)and I go a little stir crazy.

Hi I just had non id twin boys at 37, have two other boys aged 5 and 3, and one thing I did notice about this pregnancy was the tiredness. With the other two I kept active throughout, worked right up until the end (though not shifting hay bales), but with the twins I was exhausted, and at the end I could hardly move, let alone do anything too physical. So I would anticipate having to rest a little bit more with this pregnancy.

Just to repeat what others have said - get as much rest as you can and don't get too stressed about what may or may not happen.

I'm the proud (single) mum to b/g twins who are now 4.5 but arrived five days before my 40th ...

I kept being warned that they would probably arrive early/be low weight/that I would have a difficult pregnancy - they were 6lb 9 and 7lb 12, arrived by CS at 38.5 (my consultant was happy for me to continue longer but I had had enough!) and bar rampant indigestion and carpal tunnel syndrome, had a really easy pregnancy.

I too was told to rest and was in fact in hospital for a week before the birth because they found out I was still driving ...

Enjoy it, relax and try not to worry - save that for when they're here!
