28 wks pregnant with MCDA twins...strong possibility of TTTS

At 28 wk scan yesterday they noticed that the amniotic fluid levels around one of the twins was a lot lower than the other. I have gone today to have first of two steroid injections and tomorrow I have to go to Liverpool fetal medicine centre for a scan?? Anyone know what will happen at this stage? I was really shocked when the consultant said there was a possibility of delivering them now. I'm not ready yet! Will they be able to reduce the excess fluid or will they just deliver. I know it's an impossible question as every case is different but I feel like I'm stumbling around in the dark. Anyone who's been through similar could they let me know their experience if it's not too painful. I'd greatly appreciate it.

There are things they can do, like lasering the placenta. Not sure if this is possible at 28 weeks but worth asking.

have a look on the TAMBA messageboard www.tamba.org.uk/html/messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=20849

This link has loads of info on TTTS

Good luck, I hope it's good news.

Hi Ewemoo, I'm 26 weeks pregnant with MCDA twins so feel for you greatly. After 28 weeks their chances are extremely good if they have to be delivered, so try to keep positive. I don't think they would do laser, I think after 28 weeks they feel it's safer to get them out if there's a problem but I'm unsure about fluid reduction etc. My thoughts are with you and all the best of luck.

Good news. It seems that my local hospital made a mistake with the scan they did on Monday and there is no chance atm of TTTS which is great. In fact, twin two is actually bigger than expected at this stage (2lbs 110z) which makes twin one look smaller (2lbs 6oz)when actually she is an average size. I have to go back in 2 weeks but am greatly relieved that they can stay where they are for the moment. Thanks for messages of support
