Flying to Oz with 9 month olds!!

Are we crazy?!?!

The piglets will be 9 months by then...please tell me honestly what we can expect!

Any tips, hints, experiences to share would be very welcome!

I am scared witless of the whole idea to be honest; jetlag, loss of their routine, etc!!

No advice I'm afraid, just wanted to say that I will be watching with interest as we've got a 17 hour flight booked when my DTs are 9 months and am worried about all the same kind of things as you!

Took them away when they were 3 months and it was soooo easy as they just slept and ate, am dreading the constant wriggling and their need to try out all their 'new sounds' - ie. shouting on the plane!

We took our boys to Australia (not twins) when they were 16w and 14 mths respectively. Only advice I have is to bring plenty of snacks they like for the journey (are you allowed to do that now??), little bits and bobs for them to play with and just let them sleep etc whenever they want. Ours didn't do too badly with jetlag but we just went with the flow - we found you can't plan a journey too closely with babies. You'll be fine ... enjoy!

Oh ... and be prepared for sore arms from holding/nursing them for hours on end!! What airline have you booked with? We did Qantas on one trip and Singapore on the other ... Qantas/BA were hopeless and the Singapore staff were absolutely fantastic with them ... even took the little one for a while and rocked him to sleep

We took our DTs to Aus when they were 5 months. It was fine - they slept lots, we had a few wines, all was well! My only downside was we flew Emirates and they send your buggy all the way through to Aus so at Dubai and Singapore we had to carry them as well as our hand luggage which wasnt always easy.

Anyway, wish me luck in 3 weeks we will be flying to Aus with the DTs aged 3.5 and DD aged 17 months.....aaaaaaaaaggggggggghhhh

I've juts got back from Australia (via Singapore) with my two aged and 3. Big difference in ages I know but I got chatting to some others who were travelling with young babies.

I second Millie1's comments about Singapore airlines - they were fab. The staff went out of their way to learn the childrens names and get them little packs of toys etc.
DD's pushchair was waiting just outside the plane each time (not the we used it the whole trip but better to be safe than sorry)and I had 'Meet and Assist' as i was travelling on my own with the children and that worked really well. I dont see why you can't ask for that even if you and DH are travelling together.

Oh and no jet lag on the way out and only a little on the way back.

Book sky cots, even if they don't sleep in them they can sit in them to give you a break.Slings are also really useful.I have one baby ,she was 10 months when I flew and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Find out what your airline provide in the way of nappies,baby food and milk ect,I loaded myself down with loads of stuff I need not have taken.

Make sure that you take turns to rest as much as you can.
