One twin is ready to drop the nap, the other isn't

Hi,

I'm hoping some other twin parents might see this and have advice. My twins are 2.5 and for a long time have been having an afternoon nap of about an hour. They sleep 19.45-6.30/7 am, and the nap is normally 13.30-14.30. It can't go later than this because we need to pick up my older kid from school.

One of the twins is absolutely refusing to nap. She had three days in a row during half term where the nap was missed (the other twin happily sleeps in the buggy, she does not) and since then just screams blue murder at nap time. Her twin will sleep through her screams. I can't leave her for longer than about 20 mins because I can't stand hearing her cry like this. She's not upset though, she's angry.

I still think she needs a nap, at the end of the day she's in a right state, and then sleeps badly because she's overtired. Then the cycle continues! She's extremely stubborn and will not just 'drop off' eventually. Once she starts screaming, she doesn't stop.

What do I do?! Do I persevere? Do I give up on naps? Her twin still absolutely needs to sleep, but if he saw her being 'allowed' not to nap he would want to stay up too.

Help!

Would wakeful twin do quiet time and listen to music or an audiobook during the nap time? Doesn't matter if she sleeps as long as she is quiet.

Any other way of getting them to nap than buggy? I had to stop doing pram naps as one of my twins stopped falling asleep that way at 2.5. They are now 3.5 and still nap in their beds. One takes a long time to his off but he just cuddles his teddy and hums to himself.

How are you all coping or not now @Arpeggiator?

I second cot nap rather than buggy nap

Could just be quiet time with a story tape /gentle music even in the room.

I needed a break as much as them!! But TV is too stimulating...avoid at naptime/quiettime
