Firstly, let me apologise for the uselessness of this thread, lol. I know the only way I will find out is when I have my scan. Just like all the "am i pregnant" - well take a test threads. But please humour me - I will be very grateful!

With DS I had bad morning sickness all the way through but I wasnt actually physically sick until 8 weeks and the nausea didnt start on any real level until 6 weeks. I didnt show with him for ages - I went to my 20 week scan and everyone thought I was there for the 12 week at the latest!

This pregnancy I started feeling sick before AF was due and was being sick from then on. Now at 6 weeks I literally cant eat anything some days and if I do eat a meal it comes straight back up.

Also - and this is where I think I may have finally gone mad, I swear I have a small bump/swelling already. I was in the shower this morning and usually I have the ever attractive spare tyre/baby fat (or too much chocolate in reality) but that starts up a bit further if you get what I mean. Above my pubic bone lower stomach area is usually pretty flat. Anyway I noticed today that it is swollen just like what happenned at the very beginning with DS - there is a noticable start to a bump and its hard underneath. I expected to start showing earlier but this at 6 weeks? It wasnt there a few days ago.

What Im trying to say is did you notice anything different on your twin compared to singleton pregnancies?

Apologies if you are shouting at me or rolling your eyes and telling me to wait for the scan, lol.

Felt rough as old boots, much moreso than with 2 previous pregnancies. Sick every day, felt and looked bigger almost immediately, lots of little clues really, even me and best friend joking about the twins etc etc - until scna day! You wouldn't have given tuppence for me when i found out.

Good luck, when's your scan?

MarsLady · 12/01/2008 19:58

If it's DTs come join us on the d'y ever threads!

Sadly until the scan there's no definitive way of saying it's twins. I know twin mums who were never sick and were the size of peas

oooggs · 12/01/2008 19:58

With ds1 I felt sick was showing at 9 weeks and very faint as blood pressure drops in pregnancy.

With dts I had no bladder control, felt and was very sick and very very faint and showed at 9 weeks.

I found out at 8 weeks, when is your scan?

theslownorris · 12/01/2008 19:59

Not really,in fact I lost weight. If it hadn't been for an early scan (went to EPU at 8 weeks due to bleeding) I'm sure I would have been blissfully unaware until the first scheduled scan. Even towards the end a lot of people commented that they hadn't realised I was pregnant, let alone with twins. . (I didn't think I was that fat before )

inamuckingfuddle · 12/01/2008 20:01

I wasn't sick at all with twins and didn't really show until about 16 weeks
(but soon caught up!) but I haven't had any others so can't compare for you - good luck and congrats no matter what

I think I was only sick 3 times in total during my twin pregnancy. In fact I'm one of those annoying people who don't really get morning sickness at all .

luckylady74 · 12/01/2008 20:01

i showed at that point with my twins, but then my friend who's pregnant now with one showed that early too - it was wind swelling her up she thinks!

MarsLady · 12/01/2008 20:36

I showed at conception every fecking time!

Leoloopydoo · 12/01/2008 20:43

Nothing was different for me but I had a very strong feeling. I even looked up signs of twin pregnancies on the internet before I knew and dismissed it because I didn't have any particular signs. It was such a nagging feeling though that hte day before I went for my scan I told my sister I thought I was having twins!

tkband3 · 12/01/2008 22:26

I was never actually sick, but I felt a LOT more nauseous in the first trimester of my twin pregnancy than my previous one. The nausea lasted all day and was only alleviated by eating . I got big very quickly - looked about 20 weeks by the time I went for my scan I reckoned, but everyone told me it was just because it was my second pregnancy and my muscles had relaxed .

From the moment I found out I was pregnant though, like Leo, I had a very strong feeling it was twins. I told all my friends but neglected to tell OH. It was clear as day to both of us though as soon as the scan started. The sonographer said 'you do know there's 2 in there don't you?'. OH said 'Oh F*CK' and those were his last words for a good few hours !

But as everyone says, the only real way to tell is with the scan. Any chance you could swing an early one, if you're suspicious enough?

addictedtoharibo · 13/01/2008 09:32

Im really tempted to pay for a private one in a few weeks - local bupa do a "reassurance" scan for £60. Now by reassurance Im presuming they mean you are worried about miscarriage but Im sure they will accept my twin fear story!

I am hugely more sick this time and I thought last time was bad enough - its like awful sea sickness all day and night long.

Lying in bed this morning I measured height of bump with fingers and its 3 fingers width above public bone and is definately that. Since having DS I reckon I could always pass for 4 months pregnant lol but this is a separate bump starting beneath the too much chocolate.

We shall see - maybe I will pay for scan but feel a bit stupid doing it. The thought of twins has been so strongly in my mind for the last week or so its uncanny - dreaming about them etc. Ive mentioned it to a couple of friends who know the feeling is so strong.

We shall see - last time I "knew" i was having a brown haired boy right from the start and guessed his weight spot on so you never know I may just be psychic!!!

Anyway, thanks for humouring me!

xx

I startes showing at 6 weeks, all my friends at work said I was having twins as a bump started really early. found out was having Non ID twins at 8 weeks. Started going to the toilet frequently at 4 weeks, thought it was all in my head as I had just found out I was pregnant but when I found out it was twins apparantly this was normal. I was reassured that once the uterus got above the pubic bone the frequency would slow down (I was still waiting at 36 +4 when i had the little darlings )Just remember if you are having twins the £60 spent on a scan will go a long way on other things as you will get a scan shortly anyway. But enjoy the excitement but don't be disappointed if it's not twins, a singleton is a blessing aswell.

floppyhat · 13/01/2008 10:10

forgot to say had evening nausea but no vomiting. Everyone told me having twins meant double trouble with the hormones but even the nausea on lasted between 4-12 weeks (just a good excuse to eat ginger nut biscuits)

BenandSue · 14/01/2008 13:17

I was very sick during my first pregnancy (1 girl), but most people told me it's not as bad during your second pregnancy. Imagine the pleasant surprise when I started being sick at 6 weeks, hardly able to keep anything down and in hospital on a drip twice!! Still don't feel wonderful at 20 weeks, but a lot better now.

I did notice a hard bump much earlier in pregnancy - thought something was wrong, but didn't even think of twins. Very shocked when I had my scan at 13 weeks. Still can't get my head round it really.

sandyballs · 14/01/2008 13:25

I felt very very sick but wasn't actually sick and I looked about 6 months pregnant at 2 months.

Didn't find out it was twins until 16 weeks.

ExpectingKat · 15/01/2008 08:04

As I was booked in to get sterilized didn't even think I would get pregnant took 5yrs to get DS, a week or so before found out DD2 age 8 said I wish you had a baby in your tummy lo and behold I found I was expecting, I was overwelmed with tiredness but put that down to having DS and him being only 5months, from the minute told DD1 and DD2 we were havin another baby DD2 kept sayin it could be twins, even up to the morning of my scan which Itold her not to be so silly ( I was havin enough problems thinking how to cope with 1 more baby), it was a on going joke with both DD's sayin 'we'll know when we come home one day as you'll be in shock' imagine my utter shock to be told it was, I had no other worse symptoms felt a bit bigger but put that down to being so close to DS. When I came home DH didn't even believe me after all the jokin and I was pleased I had scan pic of both together so he would lol

Hi , I am new to this wonderful site. I found I was pregnant with twins, when I went for a routine Smear Test. My doctor said she could not carry it out, as she was sure I was pregnant! She sent me for a scan the same morning and I was greeted with 'You are pregnant, with twins, 5 months pregnant in fact and they are due on christmes day!'. They arrived one month early and being pregnant for only 3 months.. meant I was still in shock.. I had had changes to my pill, and periods erratic.. but never even realised I was pregnant! No sickness, no weight increase and had just returned from an All inclusive holiday in Mexico.. drinking Strawberry Dacquiris all day!!
My girls were born at 8 months .. 5lbs 12oz and 5lbs 8ozs. I was enormous by the end.
They are 10 now and a joy.. except for the fighting!!
I have a son who is 30 and am now a nanny to my 1 year old granddughter!
Never thought i would have a twenty year age gap with my children, but they keep you young, poor and crazy!!

shabster · 16/01/2008 22:27

I was sick morning, noon and night when i was carrying my twins. I was in maternity stuff by the time I was 12 weeks. However, this was 1981 and scans weren't routine. I was also overweight to begin with. I ended up in hospital due to high blood pressure. They x rayed me (think because they ran out of other things to do!)on the 18th December and found twins and I had them two weeks early on the 28th December. When I came to have my third child I couldnt believe what a 'doddle' the whole thing was!!

kiwimumof3 · 17/01/2008 08:53

Hi am new too (to posting at least). I had twins first, so wasn't sure what to expect, then a singleton 2 yrs later (am still recovering....). I was really tired with the twins, fell asleep when went to see Eddie Izzard (despite him being the funniest person I've ever seen!) I noticed with singleton that I felt half as tired and half as sick compared with the twins, so guessed before the scan that it was "only" one. Was very lucky as I never threw up in either pregnancy. I also put on more weight with one baby! (13 kg compared to 12 kg) and also suffered horribly from low blood pressure. Looking back on it, the twin pregnancy was much easier, but probably because of having to chase after two random toddlers Good luck.....
