Car recommendations to fit 3 child seats

Hi all,

Just found out we are expecting twins and we already have a 1 year old. We are looking for recommendations of affordable cars that would fit 3 child seats in (ideally in the back, and not needing to put a rear facing seat in the front).

We currently have a kuga which are a good size but a 3rd seat won't really fit in the back.
A Ford s-max was another suggestion but seems pricey. Are there any other affordable good size cars we could consider?

Thanks in advance xx

Citroën grand Picasso, as long as the car seats don't have the leg supports on, as the floor is false for storage.

We have Ford Grand Tourneo Connect. We looked at S Max and Galaxy but they have sloped roofs which felt cramped. We've had the Tourneo for 3 months now and really love it.

It was about £23k brand new, either on finance or outright. What is your budget?

MyCrap · 21/06/2021 14:52

Seat Alhambra worked well for us.

Thanks ladies for all the suggestions. We will start looking into them. @JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff I'm not sure what our budget will he as we hadn't any budget for a car change before the twin news! Under £20k probably but I suppose it will depend if we can get anything for for purpose that looks decent for that price xx

So you could almost certainly get a nearly new like a 69 or so from a dealership for that.

We also looked at VW Tiguan and a couple of others, but the Tourneo was the best for us in terms of affordability, seating and boot space.

@TheVolturi thank you! I'll check all of those out xx

Volvo XC60, your budget might be a bit of a push though.

Honda crv will fit 3 seats across the back, but you’d have to be careful as to which seats due to the shaping of the car’s seats.

If possible, visit an In-Car Safety centre - they gave me invaluable advice when I had to add a third car seat in (and took several hours trying out different seat combos in my crv until we got a combination that worked for everyone).

Otherwise, I’ve also fitted 3 seats across a Volvo XC90, and they would equally have fitted across an xc70.

A Honda FRV would work (do they still make that?) - I only had 2 seats in mine when I had it, but as it is 3 individual seats in the back, 3 seats would have fitted.

We have a zafira and will need to fit three car seats across by end of the year. Currently have 2 ERF up to 25kg seats and have tried it with a seat belted infant carrier or a high backed booster.

Have you looked at multimacs? Pricey but cheaper than a new car if you like your current one and they are starting to come up second hand now. My friend with multiples swears by theirs.

Randomly we discovered by pure luck that a kia niro can fit 3 seats in with space between them and the seats not touching the doors when closed. The middle seat looks tiny but the 2 outer seats are wider than a normal passenger chair and therefore there was space. No isofix in the middle though.

Peugeot 5008 are amazing cars for space but very square

ivfgottwins · 29/06/2021 08:45

We have a Ford c max - twins baby seats either side in the isofix and older child in a slimline graco in the middle but she's 4 and that's because the car has a proper over shoulder belt for the middle seat

jusdepamplemousse · 29/06/2021 08:59

Peugeot 5008 has three isofix points in back seat and we fit three normal size seats no issue. Massive boot too and option of two additional seats in there for when they are older and have pals over etc. Not too expensive. Surprisingly nice to drive (though not one bit zippy!). Easy to park with cameras but wouldn’t fancy without.

We have the Citroen grand c4 picasso and can fit 3 child seats in the middle. We paid 15k for ours and it was 18 months old

Ooh going to look into this one - would quite like another child one day - I'd love another set of twins but no way DH would go for it 🤣
