Did you sense your twins during early pregnancy?

I know this sounds bonkers and there are probably these sorts of posts all the time but did anyone sense their twins before it was confirmed by a scan?

This is my 3rd pregnancy and I just have this feeling. I got clear positive on a basic 25miu test at 9dpo and at 4+2 weeks a CB digi was saying 3+ weeks. I've also been having morning sickness since 4+1 and am permanently exhausted despite only being 5 weeks.

My father is a non-id twin and I look a lot like his mother. I've also had dreams where I'm having twins recently. I just feel much more 'pregnant' than I ever have before this early on.

I know every pregnancy is different but I can't shake this feeling. Am I going mad or is it worth an early scan in the next few weeks Did? Did anyone else experience this with their multiple pregnancies this early on?

Any advice welcomed!

I didn't have any symptoms with my twins and I didn't get 3+ on clearblue until 5+0 weeks

I think it's more likely that you ovulated earlier than you think as twins runs down the maternal line not fraternal. There are also less good reasons why hcg would be so high this early x

Not me but my Mum did.

She was absolutely adamant something was wrong (4th pregnancy) and was ready to terminate. Early scan at 7 weeks showed twins.

But it's her father @ivfbeenbusy so that is the maternal line. You can inherit the hyperovulation gene (and the associated increased multiples) from your dad. I did.

I did suspect I was pregnant with twins with mine, mainly because of the awful sickness.

Ha reading too quick whilst feeding my twins 🤣

My experience is that very high hcg this early is more symptomatic of a blighted ovum than twins

I had zero morning sickness or nausea in my twin pregnancy 😬

@ivfbeenbusy I'm not entirely sure when I ovulated, my cycles are regular but I'm still breastfeeding so I know that can throw it out of whack a bit. I had spotting the day before I found out (so 8dpo) and i did a test mid-afternoon at 9dpo and it was clearly positive despite not being fmu so early on.

In my last pregnancy I didn't get a positive test until about 6 weeks so this the other end of the spectrum!

@ivfbeenbusy. I did think you could inherit the 'twin gene' only from your mum - until I had them and looked into it a bit. Doh! Congratulations on yours!

Yep I knew early doors (2nd pregnancy)
At my 12 week scan I hopped on the bed and said "lets see if it's twins!"
The sonography looked at me and said, why would you say that? Don't be daft
I shrugged and just said I know...

She was laughing the other side of her face about 30 secs later.

We do have twins in the maternal line - my nan was a twin, and nan's twin daughter had twins.
But they were / are all identical so not hereditary!

Erm not quite. Hyperovulation comes down the maternal line - the mother - nothing to do with the father, they don't ovulate!

I had no idea, barely got a line on a PG test, went for an early viability scan at 7.5 weeks as was worried about MMC and found out then. I wasn't sick until about 9 weeks.

Mine was a surprise pregnancy. I was quite old and didn't even know I was pregnant until 10 weeks nevermind with twins.

Yes. I was convinced it was twins and said so to my husband at about 6 weeks. 12 week scan confirmed it.

@idontlikealdi yes but her dad would have carried this gene and passed it on to his daughter. I'm flatchested like my parental Gran - my dad didn't show this trait!

@Deftly I knew. I'd been so sick. So, so sick so early. Nothing like my first pregnancy. I joked with DH, what if there are two in there making me so sick? Ha.

I didn’t know. Looking back my nausea was worse but not dreadful, so I just put it down to a different pregnancy. The Clearblues read as a healthy singleton pregnancy. We have several sets of twins in the family but only one set of fraternal, my paternal grandfather.

Just seen that you were breastfeeding when you conceived- as was I. There is an increased risk of conceiving multiples if you’re breastfeeding.

Anyway let us know when you find out!

The sickness and nausea is really the thing that's making me wonder. I can't eat or drink other than sips of water until about 1pm or it comes back up. Obviously that doesn't with the fatigue either.

The sickness started in previous pregnancies at about 8-9 weeks and was much less constant than this. I'm 6+1 today so still a while to go until the 12w scan but will update when I do :)

No I had no symptoms and was maybe sick once in my first trimester (after I found out I was having twins). My first pregnancy test on that pregnancy was a very strong positive but I had held off for as long as possible before testing so I put it down to that!

We have ID twins so not hereditary, but my husband is a non-ID twin and he has always wondered whether he would have twins (even though we know it doesn’t run paternally). Anyway, all a nice coincidence for us, and it means we don’t have to explain to every random stranger that ID twins are non-hereditary, but just nod and say yes their dad is a twin.

No, I didn’t have any clue until 12 eeek scan.
Although looking back in hindsight I could see some signs.
Extreme hunger
More nausea
Bloating was bigger
Tiredness was worse
I found every symptom of my twin pregnancy double strength of a singleton pregnancy

I knew. No twins in either side. Went for an early scan due to multiple miscarriages.

Had scan and she said everything looked ok. I said can you check again for another. She did and looked shocked when she found a twin.

I had no symptoms, no strong lines on pregnancy sticks, was only 6 weeks so no bump to judge. I just knew with such certainty. It was weird.

Unfortunately lost both girls at 24 weeks due to TWin to Twin Transfusion.

Yes I knew very early on (before 12 week scan), but there are many twins and triplets on my mum’s side and my partner’s father is also a twin. I am also an older mum so the likelihood is even higher. I wasn’t sick at all (luckily) but was extremely tired - I’ve never known tiredness like it my whole body was just exhausted, way more than my first pregnancy with another partner.
