fertility drugs and the chance of twins

H does anyone know the percentage of multiple births due to the fertility drug clomephene (not sure about the spelling!) I took it for my daughter and will need it again to try for another baby. Or do you know of any other drug for ovulation induction that has less of a chance of twins. I don't think I could cope with twins as well as a three year old.I'm far too lazy!

beyond that I am no use whatsoever on this thread, sorry other than to say I barely cope with DTs on their own, let alone with any siblings around

MamaG · 13/10/2007 17:42

lol, at least you've GOT twins, I'm just a random poster!!

Hi mummyloveslucy. I had clomephene and you can tell by my name what happened to me!!!
Don't panic though, mine was a case of nothing was working so they kept on upping the dose and gave me more than is normally recommended. I think because you have already had a daughter they will know at what level you should be at, so your chances are probably the same as before. I don't know of any other less risky drugs that you could try. The clinics at the moment are trying hard not to have a high rate of multiples,as they are under a lot of pressure by certain groups, so they might have a more softly, softly approach than they used to. Hope this helps, come over to the multiple thread and ask I'm sure someone else will have some more info.

TrickORTripletEm · 13/10/2007 17:48

OH! Looks like they are all here!!

They should monitor you to tell you how many eggs are being released anyway. If it is more than one, stay away from DH till next month .

I have been on Clomid and have just found out I am having twins . I think the rate is about 10 per cent.

mummyloveslucy · 18/10/2007 20:02

Thanks for your advice everyone, I was secretly hoping for twins the first time around, but not now. I just couldn't cope! we also live on a huge hill and I don't drive. Having twins though would be a great incentive to learn.

I posted this on the thread you have going in conception too, so apologies if you've already seen it, but just in case...

The Clomid (brand name of Clomifene Citrate)info leaflet says "Clomid may increase the chance of you having a multiple pregnancy (twins, triplets or more) Both you and your partner should know that this is possible"

It works by stimulating your ovaries, so if they are 'over stimulated' you can produce more than one egg. More than one egg=chance of multiples. I think my doc said it was a 10% increased chance of multiples. HTH
