Bugaboo Donkey 2/3 or iCandy Orange Twin

Hi all!

I’m new to the group and am 14wks pregnant with twins... our first children! Rather nervous but excited too.

Obviously with things are at the moment, we’ve not been able to go and look at prams etc yet but I’ve whittled it down to 2 that I like the look of: the bugaboo donkey (2 or 3) or iCandy Orange twin - depending on whether we go for a tandem or not.

What are people’s experiences with either of these prams please? And what are people’s preferences when it comes to prams for twins - tandem or side by side? I love the idea of them being side by side but them worry I won’t be able to fit in doorways etc 🙈

Have you considered the mountain buggy duet? It's side by side but nearly as slim as some wider single buggy's. Lots on Gumtree as well 😊

Thanks for your reply. We looked into it and new, it’s quite comparable to the bugaboo in terms of price. We’ve been doing a bit more research on them all tonight and I contacted a couple of people on Instagram that had them to get real life reviews and aside from a test drive find the shop when they reopen, I think we’ve got our hearts set on the iCandy now.

Donkey 2 ALLLLL DAYYYY. Love love love mine, I'm a childminder and had them all britax, cossato,egg,icandy, graco etc etc and the best is the bugaboo donkey a million percent xxxxx

I have 4month old Twins and have a Donkey 2 and Bugaboo is everything and more for me!! The maneuverability (I think I spelt it right!)
I dont know much about tandem and simply just dont like the concept of it. Side-by-side for me 100% and there is nowhere Where I have had an issue of the donkey not able to fit through doors elevators or even Ballards! I love my BB Donkey the only downside is the Price £££ However; you wont regret forking out for it. BB Donkey Hands Down!!

Thank you both so much for your replies 😘 we passed someone with a bugaboo donkey whilst picking up a prescription yesterday and it's back on the table 🙈 appreciate both your feedback so once the shops reopen and it's safe to go out, we'll give both options a test drive round the shop. We had a both an iCandy and a Donkey with ours and I would 100% recommend the donkey.

No worries @LittleMiss7 please keep us posted as to what you do actually get.

I don't like tandems for twins, more for if you have two single children close enough in age than the older one still needs a pushchair.

I am a childminder and have had both these and didn't like either. Much prefer the mountain buggy duet or the abc adventure buggy much more sturdy x

@Linguaphile thanks for your comment! Interesting to know you have experience of both. If you don't mind me asking, what did you prefer about the Donkey? And did you ever have issues with the width of it when out and about? Some of the things I worry about is blocking an aisle in a shop or forcing people on to the road when I'm on the pavement! Lol xx

I had a Phil and Ted tandem for mine and i loved it. Perfect for offroading (countryside walks etc) and it fit through every doorway. Although the trade off was it was quite long. I borrowed a cheap side by side one and hated it. I couldn't fit in any little shops/coffee shops with it. Even if i could get through the door it was no guarantee it would fit through the aisles. The Phil and ted had plenty of space right from when they were tiny up to when they stopped using it. It doesn't look fashionable but it certainly met our needs.

I found the donkey easier to push and navigate, and it felt lighter to me. Admittedly though they were both older versions (my twins are now almost 7) so maybe the iCandy has improved since then! I preferred being able to see and interact with both kids at the same time. Kids also grow out of the iCandy seat arrangement faster, whereas the bugaboo can easily be used until they’re 4 years old. The width was never an issue for me. We lived in London and didn’t have a car, so I took buses everywhere. The buggy fits very neatly width-wise in the wheelchair spot, and with the handle down a whole two extra buggies can get in there, so you don’t end up taking up any more space than if three normal buggies were on the bus. However the icandy length made it harder to lift up to get up there in the first place and then once on was a bit more awkward to fit around other buggies (the length means you either block the aisle/exit if you push the buggy straight in or, if you go into the wheelchair spot, the length means you take up two buggy places.

They both hold their value well, so I wouldn’t fret about cost! We bought our donkey secondhand for 750 and sold it on 5 years later (after we used it in single mode for our 3rd child) for 500. They are well worth the investment I think.

I had the bugaboo donkey duo for my boys who were just over a year apart. It was a fantastic pram!

My boys are the youngest so have had a few other peaks before them. This was so light to push and I liked that the second child wasn’t any lower down as I had my third c section so bending wasn’t great fun in the early days.

I didn’t find any problems taking it into shops, only place that was slightly awkward was Primark. Everywhere seems quite wheelchair friendly and I think that helps with the size of it.

I also loved that everything can be washed in the washing machine. That helped it stay very clean and looking brand new. When I sold it, it really held its value and got back almost as much as I paid brand new!

I appreciate you will be having twins and not kids close in age, but the fact you could change it to a single pram was handy. Obviously if you go on to have another (singleton) baby you could put it down to one seat. Or if baby/toddler 1 is at home or with family you don’t have to push about the empty half of the pram.

@LittleMiss7 can I please ask which one you went with as I am a first time parent expecting twins and can’t decide between these 2 either so I’d really appreciate you letting me know what you went with. I am due in Feb so need to get a love on!

I ‘test drove both even though in my head I was already swaying towards the icandy orange and ended up with neither 🙈 As much as I’d love to have them both side by side, I was too conscious that I wouldn’t fit through doorways (it wouldn’t fit through our doorway at home when we measured up) and the worry of whether or it I would just wasn’t worth it. However.. I’m only 5ft 3 and struggled to see over the top of the icandy orange when it was set up as a Twin pram! I was walking round the shop on tip toes which wasn’t practical at all. Instead, we bought an iCandy peach which was slightly shorter in height than the orange. I personally felt much more comfortable with it although the orange had better access to the basket and had more seat configurations. Having used it a few time’s now, I’m really pleased with our peach xx

@AtLastEarwax can I please ask if you are a childminder in London? Everyone says in London “go for the narrowest” but the Bugaboo Donkey 3 is 29 inches versus iCandy 24 inches so it’s only 5 inch difference. Also given, as you mentioned below you have experience of using multiple diff types of buggies I really think your view is really valid so would love to know If you had experience using it in London.
