What kind of gift do I give a mum & twin preemie girl babies

My friend has just given birth to non-iden twin girls 10 wks pre-mature. I only know her & not her husband or family & other friends. I really want to offer my support & welcome the girls arrival - but I realise this is such a tough time for them. I've tried contacting the hospital to find out how they are doing but they can't tell me anything & I have left a message for the parents on their home answer phone. I'm not sure that anyone is at home as the twins were transferred to another hospital some distance away for Special Care. Do I send something to the hospital, home, or wait & what should I send? I'd had an idea of sending some preemie clothes (not sure of their weights though) & maybe a book on preemie babies for the mum, as I know this wasn't something she had planned & therefore would not have any of - what's the general consensus? Many thanks really appreciate your help.

Photo frame/box/scrapbook to put special things in when they have to be apart from their DDs?

Maybe a box of chocolate or something for the parents ? Premmie clothes are hard to come by and you don't know the size (they will probably be using hospital ones for the moment).

I would send it to the home - presumably the father at least will go there periodically. When I was in hospital having my twins it was really nice when DH appeared bringing the latest batch of cards etc.

If they have access to the internet then point them towards www.twinsclub.co.uk - lots of people there have been through prem twins and will be able to help.

also maybe when they come home then give them a present for the babies - that is really a nice thing to celebrate (it may be a while for them if they are only 30 weeks).

You can order premmie clothes from here

I think a couple of little hats (which they all seem to wear in the incubator) and a treasure box (M&S do really nice baby ones with matching photo album), would be lovely. If you can stretch to it a tiny soft toy each would be a nice thought!

My friend is in hospital with pre-eclampsia at 28 weeks pregnant, and could be delivered any time. I know how stressful she is finding it, so your friend will need plenty of support!
