MMR - pre school booster (happy for them to have it).. the question is................

did you take your DTs separately or together?

I can't quite decide and I need to make the appointment.

If I take them together whichever one goes first may well scare the other (the volume of their screams when they do scares me!!!)

I know... I should simply make a decision... but why do that when I have Mumsnet?

Try and do them together with two nurses, when you make the appointment I'm sure you could ask. When DS1 and DS2 went to get Hib Booster together it was pandemonium. They screamed the place down. DS2 spat his choc button in the HV's face [blush}

I thought about the 2 nurses option... (but then which twin do I hold?) which is doable... I think.. .will need to call the surgery.

Well, your dts are the same age as my ds and he only recently had his first MMR (long story). Much to my surprise he didn't scream, shout or indeed make any sound whatsoever. In fact he is looking forward to having his booster very soon (I think the bribe of a sweet may have something to do with this!)

I think the older they are the less frightend and more easily reassured they are. But then again, I don't have twins so don't know the dynamics of a twin relationship (obviously!) I think I'd rather get it done in one fell swoop.

The problem I've always found with the booster occurs 5 minutes from the gps!

DC: Mum where are we going?

Mars I didn't realise you meant the pre-school booster when you mentioned this on the other thread. How old are your DTs? I took DD1 for hers back in June (before she turned 4 and was told it was much too early and she should come back just before she started school. I booked another appt for last week, but then got a call from the surgery telling me that I should re-schedule again, cos otherwise she would need to have another jab to catch up on something which is explained here.

I understood from our docs that it should definitely not be done before the age of 4 and if they have early school-year birthdays then probably closer to 5.

As far as the best strategy is concerned, given that it's 2 jabs that apparently do hurt, might be best to get DH to go with you if you can and if you can't get 2 nurses, don't take them in together - smuggle the first (probably screaming) one out of the room, before taking in the 2nd. Then a quick trip to Woolies or somewhere for a cheap bribe for being such good DTs .

tkandb............ my DTs are 3.7 years so that should be okay I think or are you saying (birth/salsa brain tonight) that I should wait until next year just before they start school. I be all confused now!

Mine had theres in receptions at school. They both sat on my lap and the doctor did it at the same time.

I explained what was going to hapen and that it was very important medcine. They pulled sad faces but it was all forgotten by home time!

Think they would be considered too young for their booster by my surgery and most of DD1's friends have had their boosters throughout the last year after they turned 4. I would say they might be a bit young, but it's a bit odd that your surgery has called them in for it - might be worth querying it with them? Sorry, not much help...my brain's a bit fried as well, no excuses like birth/salsa, just got end-of-summer-holiday-brain .
