Are there any other twins on your side OR on your DP/DH/or the twins father's side?

MUM's SIDE -
My mum is a non-identical twin.

DAD's SIDE -
My dad's mum is a twin but died at birth.
There are 4 set of non-identical twins - all under age 25.

Ive got one daughter and my bro has got one daughter too (6 months apart).

im just curious!

Ah! THEY'RE COMING TO GET YOU!!!!!

My great grandfather on my dad's side was a twin and he had twin daughters (my dad's aunts) but, the way I understand it, thats not related to me having twins. Mine are non-id and therefore its down to how many eggs I produced in one cycle and therefore inherited from my mum's side (correct me if wrong, I'm sleep deprived).

I'll never know about twins in my mum's side as she was adopted.

If I had a penny for every time I'd heard the words "ooh, are there twins in your family" I'd be making a big donation to the 'Padded Care Home for Shagged Out but Saveable Mothers'

'If I had a penny for every time I'd heard the words "ooh, are there twins in your family" I'd be making a big donation to the 'Padded Care Home for Shagged Out but Saveable Mothers' ROFL Frumpy - you are lovely

I just say 'no they were a huge surprise and I'm still in shock'

sandyballs · 08/08/2007 11:18

None DH's side.

Not sure about me, I'm adopted. But my girls are non-identical so I presumably inherited the tendency to release two eggs in one cycle from my mother, as Frumpygrumpy has said. I have started to trace my birth family and on my social services file I discovered that my mother was one of 11 children who at the time of my adoption were aged between 10 and 22, so probably a couple of sets of twins in there somewhere .

Biglips · 08/08/2007 13:21

wow sandyballs - 11 kids!! eek!....good luck tracing your biological family.

Frumpy - ..i hope not!!!

nope, none in mine or the father of my twins' family.

but it will be interesting to see what dd has though, since I've had twins, her dad was a twin, and both his parents were twins. A[pparently she is in line for octuplets

chopster · 08/08/2007 13:30

by the way, twins do only run on the mothers side, and only non-id.

speedymama · 08/08/2007 13:34

My mum's side (she had 9 siblings most of whom went on to have lots of children themselves).

Several twins. It is quite prolific!

I have twin boys.

Biglips · 08/08/2007 15:26

totaleclipse · 08/08/2007 15:36

I have identical twin girls, but no other twins in family, however identical twins are not hereditory, just unlucky............I mean luck

totaleclipse · 08/08/2007 15:37

Am sure I have read too, that twins in families often skip a generation.

Meeely2 · 08/08/2007 15:38

no history on either side, but they have to start somewhere.....

GodzillasBumcheek · 08/08/2007 20:31

There are apparently twins somewhere way back in the family, and not directly linking through my mum's side...so i don't think that counts.

Still yet to find out if mine are id, but they sure look it (they didn't at birth though). Am saving up slowly to afford the zygosity testing, because they want to know for sure. I think they are going to be annoyed if they are identical!

PiusIX · 10/08/2007 00:01

We've just had twins (yesterday) and there are no twins as far as we know anywhere in either family.

Biglips · 10/08/2007 07:55

awww many congrats PiusIX

I have id twins - none on any side of the family.

Both sides have twins at the great grandparent level - but nothing closer. My mum's dad also had twin brother and sister.

tripletsandtwins · 12/08/2007 18:35

My grandmother was a non-id twin, and I think my dh's great-grandmother was also a non-id twin...I think there are triplets somewhere in my family as well on my mother's side, but I'm not entirely sure... I've never done my family tree, never had the time!

MarsLady · 12/08/2007 19:13

So girls.... who's going to be the first to send the leaflet with all the answers lol

Idobelieveinfairies · 13/08/2007 09:38

no twins in my family apart from mine

It does run on the lady side, as a male has no influence over the amount of eggs a woman releases in one cycle.

HOWEVER....i read somewhere that....if their are non-id twins that run in the male side of family then scientists now think that that male can mass the 'multiple' gene on to any daughter he may have!..are you with me??

e.g...my boy twins...they won't go on to have multiples themselves, but if they were to have a daughters they have a stronger chance of having a multiple pregnancy (releasing more than one egg at a time)

largeginandtonic · 13/08/2007 09:45

I have id twin boys, their Dad is an id twin himself and his cousin had id boys too! Could be coincidence..... My 2 were also 3 to start but i lost one at 15 weeks, im not sure weather that one was id too or not.

Idobelieveinfairies · 13/08/2007 09:47

Gosh all them identical twins!...blimey!!!

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

smellymelly · 13/08/2007 10:00

I may be wrong, but I thought Identical twins ran through the blokes side, and non-id ran through the mothers side, seeing as non-identical are from 2 separate eggs, and identical is when something about the mans sperm splits the eggs?

I have boy girl twins btw. Cannot trace my mums side as she was adopted, and nothing on my dads side. Dh has boy girl twin cousins.

Idobelieveinfairies · 13/08/2007 10:22

Yep...identicals are to do with the mens sperm i heard too, but i don't think they proved that that itself ran in the family...more a case of it could happen to anyone!

But this was a while ago when i looked in to how i concieved twins..lol 6ish years ago, maybe there is more evidence now!???!
