travelling with 3 week old twins

a really good friend of mine is getting married 3 weeks after my scheduled c section date to deliver twins. I live in cambridge and he is in Bradford. I really REALLY want to go to the wedding but am worried about whether it is a sensible thing to attmept or not! 3 weeks is not long to get used to new babies (these are my first)especially when the first week will be spent in hospital and the next 2 weeks will be a blur of visiting family and friends. Should I attempt a weekend away so soon or just explain to him and miss the wedding? (he should be understanding, he has a son of his own so knows how hard the first few weeks can be). Any advice appreciated! Thanks.

I had a similar thing when my twins were little (about 2 months I think, Norfolk and Yorkshire in our case). I just couldn't handle the idea of a big party and/or church with newborn twins. So I didn't go - but would have loved to. I am pretty sure my friend understood.

Personally I think it would be tough to do.

ps- that is not so much the journey as the being away from home, having to deal with lots of people, not having your own space etc.

You will be exhausted and they will totally understand you not being there....I couldn't recommend going

(However, if you really want to go then as long as you have friends also going that are happy to hold babies whether they are smiling, sleeping or grizzly then you could manage.)

You could of course do a Mars and abandon ship and enjoy the break without them .

yeah, I think I know in my heart of hearts that it is not a good idea to go - I think all of us would be frazzled and cranky. Leaving them at home would not really be an option as I am hoping to breastfeed and would be away for 24 hours.

don't underestimate how tired you will be. Together with the shock of having 2 new borns to deal with. The first few weeks are generally a bit manic.

Depends on what sort of person you are.

I didn't leave the house (or my pyjamas) for about a month after my twins came home. The idea of going to a wedding would have sent me over the edge - I used to combust into tears when a gift would arrive as I had to find the time and energy to write a thank you card!! I also looked 6 months pregnant for about a month after the birth so would have had to have pitched up in my maternity clothes .

I've since met women who have been out and about the week after the birth - to twins club, supermarket, etc. Really just depends on how quickly you heal up and your outlook.

No No No. Get someone close to mind them if it is something you really want to go to. But with two babies all you will be doing is taking care of them and not enjoying yourself. Plus two beautiful babies at a wedding, nobody will be watching the bride. Trust me every body loves baby twins.

Also another quick note you can alway express your milk so someone else can feed them.. Start freezing your colostrum now so you have enough by the time the babes arrive.

I took one baby on holiday at 5 weeks. Looking back it was a mistake (well we should have got a much nicer holiday home at least). 2 would really be pushing it.

INSANITY TO GO. YOU WILL BE EXHAUSTED WITH ENORMOUS LEAKY TITS, LEAKY VAG, HORMONES FLYING, ETC ETC. BE GENTLE ON YOURSELF AND DON'T IT EXPECT TOO MUCH SO EARLY ON...
