Tearing - does the risk/degree increase with twins?

I'm currently planning a VB for my twins, both have been head down for a while.

In previous pregnancies I've had 2nd deg tears, even though my babies have varied hugely in size and head circ!

I'm wondering if I'll tear 'as usual' with twin 1 - then could that tear increase because there's another baby to push out?

Btw I do realise I might not get to deliver both naturally, but it's one thing on my mind!!

Hi Eeeek no advice here I am afraid as I am 34 weeks into my first pregnancy with b/g twins but hoping someone will come along soon and give you an answer so that I can see it too!

I had 2nd degree tears with DS1 and 1st degree tears with DTs.

I had 1st degree tears with ds1, grazes with ds2 and nothing (really, nothing, even with epidural and forceps) for dts must be really saggy down there dts were a lot smaller than the older two.

I had stitches with DC1, none with DC2, and none with DTs (14.5lb baby plus 2 placentas) so you may be ok!

I've had 2 sets of twins (MCMA & DCDA) naturally with one was also breech and I didn't tear at all, and with my 2nd set I wasn't even fully dilated I was about 8cm. But even then my heaviest DC weighed less than 7lbs at birth.

Hi this is also something that keeps popping into my head. I've had a 3rd and 2 2nd tears so know it will happen again. My mcda are both head down and I'm hoping they stay that way to avoid a section. I read onetthing that said that twin 2 is easier to deliver and I'm sticking with that thought to make it easier to get my head around. After I had my 1st singleton and suffered a bad 3rd tear I saw a consultant who was adamant I wouldn't tear again and any mw I spoke to said the same. I new I would and it helped me prepare for the aftermath after labour. If I prepare for the worst anything less than that is a bonus. Good luck. Oh I'm 30+3
