Oh my, there's 2!

I wasn't sure of my dates so had a scan this morning and there's 2 babies, I'm 10 weeks 4 days along, there's so much to think about. My first thing is which hospital to have my care through, does anyone know anything about kings or lewisham as both are easy for us, oh my!

Congratulations, it's lovely being a twin mum!! No advice on hospitals though. Deep breath, the shock will wear off eventually!!

Thank you both, I'm pretty surprised and can't possibly imagine 2 babies, I have a two year old as well! I can't quite believe it's all going to be okay yet! They were the same size, wiggling with heartbeats so I'm hoping at this stage that's quite positive although I just read something about missing/disappearing twin if you have your scan before 12 weeks, so now I'm not so sure, any thoughts?

Many congratulations and may I say great work! Whilst I had my two at my local hospital in Kent I had to go to kings every fortnight for check ups and they were fantastic! If I lived closer I would've opted for kings. Can't comment on Lewisham.

Thanks tinks I'm actually currently under the PRUH in kent as I had a good experience there with my son is that where you were? but the scan lady said either kings or lewisham I'm not really sure why.

I had my little ladies (mcda twins) at darent valley (DVH) lovely hospital. They pulled out all the stops for the three of us. The consultant treated me and my girls like we were his.
I went to kings to be monitored because of the kind of twins I had. The unit I visited was v swanky Wink and the staff just seemed ahead of the game. I believe it's a college and all the students fight to get in there.
My girls are now 26mths. Crazy as anything. Full of energy but I wouldn't change them for the world.
You are so lucky - revel in it!

Thank you all so much, you are making me feel a bit of excitement over the terror! I've managed to sort out a nucal scan at kings for in a week or so, il see what they say when I'm there but that feels like where I'd like to be. Just need to keep everything crossed all is well with the both of them!

Hi OP ... I'm currently 16+5 with b/g twins. I had the choice of PRUH or Lewisham but would have preferred kings in terms of antenatal care. I had my twelve week scan at kings and they were brilliant. I know the pruh is now owned by kings but I don't think they have really caught up yet. In saying that I've got a few friends who gave birth in the pruh and they all had good things to say about it.

My antenatal care is at beckenham beacon - I have not been impressed so far. Hoping it improves - so far all I've seen is a student midwife and a junior doctor neither of whom knew anything about having twins. Haven't managed to get any questions I've had answered at all.

Hello expectingtwins, I think at the moment I'm in a nomans land between the pruh and kings, I chose the pruh originally because I had a lovely experience there having ds although it's much further from me now so maybe not ideal, my antenatal care also at becenham beacon was a bit sparse but when I actually needed something they were very obliging, maybe ask them, I used to work as a hcp so know sometimes you need to make a bit of a fuss. Hope you feel settled there soon though, maybe il bump into you in the waiting room if kings don't take me on!

I booked in last week and was told that King's is not accepting any more referrals at the moment, so I ended up accepting Lewisham. I'm not sure if that would apply to multiples. My bestie had her twins at King's and received very good care there (better than for her first singleton where they botched the induction). I visited her twins in NICU and it looked pretty good. If I had more than one in there, I would probably want King's/

Hi rootveg - no doubt you will if my last appt at the beacon was anything to go by - waited nearly an hour and a half to be seen so I'm anticipating a lot of time going to be spent in the waiting room over the next few months (what made it worse is that when I was seen I was in and out in less than 5 mins) ... Still shouldn't complain really because it means that they aren't worried about me I guess.

Was chatting to the receptionist who was saying that they've had a large influx of ladies expecting twins recently so the doctors are very busy (at the beacon if its twins they won't let you see the midwife it has to be a doctor)

Hope it all goes smoothly no matter where you end up going

Congrats! I'm 30 weeks pregnant with b/g twins. My son will be 2 around their due date so understand your anxiety, although I have to say you sound much calmer than I was when I first found out I was having twins! I'm having them at Kings, where I had my son and very happy with that decision. Good luck with the pregnancy, mine has been very smooth and I'm feeling really good so don't get bogged down by the horror stories if how terrible a twin pregnancy can be x

I find out I had twins when I was about 20 weeks, abroad and Drs machine was broken, you've got a leetle bit moré time get used To the idea than I didGrin

Mine pregnancy was also smooth, other than morning sickness, carried úntil 35 weeks.

Congratulations!!

All the nuchal testing for LBB is done at kings or Sidcup now I think. I was under PRUH, 12 week scan at Kings and then because my two were MCDA I was scanned every two weeks at Kings with antenatal at PRUH. I went on to develop TTTS and was treated at Kings. They were outstanding.

I was then transferred back to PRUH as the TTTS had effectively been cured and I have to say the sonographers and consultants did not fill me with confidence, they knew nothing about TTTS and multiples in general.

In the end I had my girls in Ashford as PRUH SCBU doesn't take under 32 weekers and none of the London Nicu units had space.

Did they tell you what sort of twins you are expecting? I would push for Kings if you can, afraid I don't know anything about Lewisham.

You are all so helpful, it's been a funny old day! I'm loving hearing about all your happy pregnancy experiences and the joy of twins when they arrive it's very soothing. Il continue down the kings path and see what happens,it dawned on me earlier that as they induce you early I could be having two yes two babies in 5 months ish, well done to you all, sounds like you're doing great, I'm resolving to get more sleep and drink more water from this day onwards so night all!

Congratulations! Mine are 5 months next week. I became mildly obsessed with vanishing twin syndrome because I had an early scan at 7w due to a bleed. Ended up having a private scan at 10w because I was so convinced it would all go wrong. It didn't and I carried them to my ELCS date at 38+0 - 5lb5 and 7lb13 (DCDA girls).

Enjoy your pregnancy and try not to worry (or google) too much.

Aww, congrats! I remember the day I found out, almost exactly a year ago today. You'll get used to the idea in no timeby Monday, the thought of having just one baby will seem incomplete. :) Don't let anyone scare you about the difficulties, expense, etcbeing a twin mum is fab!

Chuddy, I saw my obstetricion in the afternoon, she examined me and said I was Nowhere near ready and would likey Go full term, told DH he could travél abroad the next day and not To worry about anything. They arrived the next afternoon, luckily before DH's flight was Due To leaveGrin.

I had a dull ache like period pain all night which I Failed To realise was my cervix dilating, and then felt nauseas in the morning. DH said I looked dreafull, having Spent the previously 35 weeks telling me how stunning I looked pregnant. And the bump felt solid, like rock, even though I wasn't feeling any contracciones.

The week before I had an overwhelmng desire To bake, but didn't want To actually eat cakes. It was so strong that I waddled walked in 45 degrees with 98% humidity To buy cake tins so that I could bake cakes that no one really wanted.

Wow! That is my concern, that they really could come anytime. People keep asking me my due date. My reply is always technically 5th April but most likely anytime in March! Can I ask how much they weighed?
