Gift for parents of twins?

Just found out that my close friends are expecting twins in July.

I'm so excited for them, and already planning what to get them as a gift. I'm overseas, so need to plan in advance (twins tend to be early, and the post tends to be slow) and I can't do anything practical as I usually would do(cooked meals, babysitting etc).

They should get lots of hand-me-downs from siblings, so toys, bedding and clothes are covered.

Any ideas?

Couldyou do an online tescos shop to get delivered a few days post birth? Put in ready meals, box of nappues, wipes etc.

I second the Tesco order idea - I'd have loved that when DS was born.

? The best present we got when DD (our second child) was born was M&S ready meals. 4 main courses, 4 puddings, 4 kiddy meals, a box of tea bags and a box of biscuits!

If you're thinking of a changing bag, the Skip Hop Double Duo is the best. Not the prettiest but definitely the best. I usually get books for presents, That's not my books or other favourites.

You tend to accumulate a lot of stuff junk when you have two babies. Like others said, food (especially easy to cook stuff, ready meals) is probably best. The most helpful thing we had was friends bringing around meals for us just to heat up.

I sww some printed onesies with "I was planned" on one and "I wasn't" on the other one - I thought it was very funny but may offend depending on sense of humour.

The nicest thing we had was homemade cake left outside our door. I haven't used them but another new Mum raved about the delivery she had from sponge.co.uk (think that's the right address). Would also second the suggestion of books -they're lovely when they're older and you don't need to do anything to them when they arrive...

Or you could get a mutipack of screwdrivers - with at least 2 small crosshead/Phillips ones and lots of AA and AAA batteries. They will thank you at some point in the first year.

Perhaps I'll organise that and then send a book too.

I tried to cut and paste the link but its not working for some reason - google Chef on Board. We had one of the New Mummy gifts delivered - 12 ready meals I think of good quality, it was brilliant.

Or do you know the area where they live? Are there any child friendly restaurants (pizza express / carluccios etc) that you could buy a voucher for? We had a voucher for a restaurant that we used when we managed to get them in a bit of a routine and went out for a quick lunch with the babies asleep in their pram. Felt brilliant to be out of the house and a good reason to put clean clothes on and actually have a proper conversation with my h .

If you know them very well, I've since heard from other twin mummies getting a present of a cleaner for a couple of hours once a week, or a voucher for the local ironing service.

Two massive bottles of gin.

Unfortunately not rich, so night nanny and cleaner aren't really options. Plus the fact they have parents who will be around contantly I imagine, so I like to think they'll take care of the cleaning side of things, and probably the cooking side of things too.

Perhaps the voucher idea, to force them out of the house, or maybe the gin if they don't feel up to it , although they are more beer & wine drinkers so perhaps that would go down well.

I really can't begin to imagine how difficult life is with newborn twins - it makes me exhausted just to think about it!

I'm expecting twins in June and have my eye on these Dr Seuss outfits, with a Cat in the Hat one for dd!
