Shy 4yr old girls...

Hi, just wondering if anyone else could offer a view on this..i just got back my 4yr old girls 'reports' from nursery for the year; they are due to start reception in September. The reports were very positive, praising their politeness, interest and cooperation etc. But in both of them, the point was made that they are very shy and reserved when speaking in group time and said it was a 'shame as they are clearly very bright'.

I know i have nothing to worry about as far as their ability is concerned, they both are able and have a good vocab etc, but just a bit unsure about the shy thing. I was never a shy child really, but my husband was and still is a bit. I just dont want them to miss out because of this...do you think its worth trying to tackle it? Could it possibly be a twin thing, or just their age??? Opinions welcome!

It's age is my guess. Could you speak to the teacher? Have YOU noticed that they are shy?

I suppose so, they do clam up a bit when meeting new faces. I did speak to their teacher about it a while ago, but its difficult to know how to tackle it as there is no such problem at home! In fact they never stop talking Grin

I dont want to make a huge issue of it, or change who they are i just dont want them to be unsure of themselves. I kind of understand that they dont just throw themselves at new people...and thats a good thing i suppose. Difficult to know whats best!!

It could possibly be an embarrassment factor as well and self awareness developing. Our DS is far more confident in standing up and talking to the nursery class than DD.
