Hi I am 21 weeks pregnant with id twin boys (I am currently the same size as I was when I was 39 weeks pregnant with my daughter) and I am really really struggling to get around, have baths and showers and even go to the toilet. I recently had to have surgery (laser ablation for ttts) so I am sore but I feel really embarrassed asking for help (from husband/mum) washing and going to the bathroom. I dread to think about if I get caught short when out and about, Anyone out there struggling with the same problems?

Hi kate- I really feel for you.

During my twin pregnancy I remember asking my doctor at 17wks why I felt like I was about to give birth. She reminded me that twins are only smaller in the third trimester and so carrying two normal sized 17 wk foetuses was already quite a load. You are now 21 wks so even more of a load.

Twin pregnancies are different - by 25 wks my DH was helping me in and out of baths and showers, by 30 wks pulling my tights up for me and fastening my shoes, when it got to the point I couldn't reliably get on and off the loo myself, (36wks) I really couldn't imagine making it to term - I'd had enough. I asked to be induced at 39wks.

The thing is though, all dignity pretty much flies out of the window in labour anyway, especially with twins, ( I had about 9 people in the room at one point), you just have to see your pregnancy as an extension of this - you need help and your mum and DH will understand this - it's just part of a twin pregnancy.

Good luck

Forget dignity, you get that back after the birth.

My DH used to have to help me out of the bath and much of the above. Make sure you go to the loo a lot and use the bigger cubicles, if you do have an accident just claim your waters have broken Grin
