Hi I am currently 9 wks 2 days pregnant with twins, the ultrasound Dr said that it looks as though they in different sacs so could either be fraternal or identical (according to the internets lol). I currently think
that I am having boy/girl twins because my cravings are so random. Whereas with my dd (2yr) I stuck to oranges and jacket potatoes.
I have lots of questions about twins too as mine have apparently come from nowhere (no family history) but everyone keeps saying that "they have to start somewhere".

  1. How early were your twins
  2. How long did they spend in special care - if at all.
  3. How did you give birth to your twins, C-sec, natural, forceps.
  4. What type of twins did you have b/g, b/b or g/g.
  5. How did your older children react to twins. We have bought our dd a lot of Dora the explorer DVDs because Dora has twin b/g siblings.
Also I have only just got out of hospital for HG, when did your morning sickness subside.

Please help

Firstly congratulations!

My twins are ID girls - born at 34weeks by ECS, they spent 17 and 21 days in NICU due to low birth weight. First children for us!

Hope you feel better soon, I was quite sick for 19 weeks, didn't end up in hospital though. I really hope you feel better soon! :)

sandyballs · 12/03/2012 12:17

Congratulations. My twins are non ID girls, born at 37 weeks by ECS, which I knew quite well in advance as one twin was lying crossways with no room to move. DT1 was 6lb 4oz and DT2 was 6lb 15oz and they didn't spend any time in special care, came straight onto the ward with me.

I didn't really have a lot of sickness or cravings, hope yours ends soon.

They are our first, and last Grin

ceeveebee · 12/03/2012 16:57

Congrats kate and michael

I have b/g twins, born at 37w1d. They were about 10 days earlier than originally planned as twin 2 had IUGR (growth restriction) which was picked up at our 36 weeks scan, she had not grown since 32 weeks. We had an ELCS.

The small twin was in special care for 6 days, they let me and her brother stay in the hospital in a room near the unit so was not too bad compared to some hospitals (my friend had her twins sent to another hospital as there were not enough incubators!).

I have no other DC, and was very lucky in having no morning sickness at all!

Best of luck

NenNen · 12/03/2012 17:42

Yay more twinnies! Congrats!

I have b/g twins born at 31+3 by EMCS four weeks ago. They are doing really well apart from a few episodes of apnea. They are due to be coming home in 7-10 days. They were 3lbs 6oz and 3lbs 8oz at birth but lost 20% of their body weight (hence the lengthy time in SCBU.)

My autistic 6 year old was a bit apprehensive at first but a bit of role play with twin dollies soon sorted that out and now he can't wait to have them home.

Best of luck with your pregnancy!

Chesticles · 12/03/2012 21:11

Congratulations.
I have non id boy twins born at 35+5 weighing 5lbs 13oz and 5lbs 15oz. They were going to be a planned section at 37 weeks due to twin 1 being breach, but due to my waters breaking they did the section early. Both boys were initially on the ward with me but couldn't control their temp or sugars so were transfered to SCBU. We were there for almost 2 weeks due to dt1 having a cleft palate (which noone spotted hence massive feeding problems). They kept me and dt2 in transitional care whilst dt1 was in SCBU.
DD1 doesn't really seem fased by the boys. To her I don't think it made any difference whether it was one baby or two.

Jandemum · 12/03/2012 21:16

I have b/g twins born at 33+1 spontaneous natural delivery - both breech (no theatres available for c section)
Boy 5lb3 and girl 3lb5
Spent 3 weeks on SCBU then discharged under neonatal outreach service for further month and a half ( came home with feeding tubes)
No other children - first and most likely last!! Smile

mum23girlys · 12/03/2012 21:20

Congratulations!

I have non identical girl twins. They were born at 34+5 weeks with the aid of forceps and both weighed in at 6lb9oz. Twin2 was breech but the doctor was adament she would deliver both vaginally and she did. Both girls were in special care for 2 days to get their feeding established but we got home on day 3. They were my 1st babies and other than suffering high blood pressure and swelling in last few weeks I kept pretty well through my pregnancy. Was in hospital for 5 days before I went into labour.

Best of luck

jellybeans · 12/03/2012 21:21
  1. How early were your twins..term; 38+ WEEKS
  2. How long did they spend in special care - if at all. TWIN B X 5 DAYS
  3. How did you give birth to your twins, 1ST TWIN NORMAL 2ND TWIN CRASH C SEC
  4. What type of twins did you have NON ID b/b
  5. How did your older children react to twins. FINE, IT WASN'T AS BAD AS I THOUGHT MAY BE.
RedBlanket · 12/03/2012 21:27
  1. 5 weeks early
  2. DT1, 5 days. DT2, 2 day
  3. C-sec
  4. B/b but i was also convinced they were b/g
  5. My first and last
Morning sickness subsided about 20 weeks, then I had a golden 2/3 weeks when I felt really well, not tired, not sick, positively glowing. Then came migraines, dizziness and exhaustion till the little darlings popped out

Congratulations! No twins in my family either, although DH 's grandmother claims they come from her side as she had twin cousins and 'it skips a generation'. Hmm.

Retsbewdy · 12/03/2012 21:28

Congrats! I was the same as you, no history in the family so a massive shock.

  1. 38 + 2 - I was induced & they still weren't budging after 18 hours
  1. None
  1. Emergency c-section (although not really an emergency, I was just bloody knackered)
  1. B / G
  1. First children

No morning sickness for me.

Good luck!

My b/g twins were induced at 38+ weeks and were born by emergency section.

They didn't spend any time in special care.

We don't have any other children.

I'm sorry to tell you that my morning noon and night sickness continued for my whole pregnancy and throughout my labour.

My recommendation is to seek out your local twins and multiples group via the Tamba website and go along to one of their meetings while pregnant. They'll be happy to answer your questions amd give you lots of advice.

Good luck.

bellabelly · 13/03/2012 11:15

Congratulations! I have 2 sets of twins so am answering your qs twice

  1. How early were your twins - born by elec c-sect at 38 weeks
  2. How long did they spend in special care - none
  3. How did you give birth to your twins, C-sec as both were breech
  4. What type of twins did you have, b/b
  5. How did your older children react to twins. The boys were our first kids.
Also I have only just got out of hospital for HG, when did your morning sickness subside. Had terrible morning sickness early on with this pregnancy but it subsided around 13 or 14 weeks.
  1. How early were your twins -born at 38wks+3, elec c-sect
  2. How long did they spend in special care - none
  3. How did you give birth to your twins, C-sec
  4. What type of twins did you have - g/g.
  5. How did your older children react to twins. The boys (they had just turned 3 years old)were v excited for about a week, then went through a weekor so of seeming really out of sorts, bit angry with mummy, fed up of babies and everything baby-related. Then they just got over themselves and it has been fine. Being twins themselves, they were very used to having to share our attention - I think it would have been the same reaction even if it had been a singleton baby to get jealous of. We did the whole babies bringing presents for the boys, etc etc - basically, don't be fazed if it takes a while for your DD tototally love them!
Also I have only just got out of hospital for HG, when did your morning sickness subside - hardly had any MS this time, lucky me.
BoomOoYattaTaTa · 13/03/2012 11:37

Respect to BellaSmile. Two sets! Wow!!

Mine were:

  1. 3 weeks early. I was induced cos blood pressure went up.
  2. No special care required. They were quite small but no problems.
  3. Natural delivery. No problems and I bounced back very quickly.
  4. B/g.
  5. Dd1 was nearly 3 when they were born. She was absolutely ok about it and was wonderful. She did have lots of attention from grandmas and daddy which helped. She's always been good with them and a lovely big sister. Now she's 13 and they're 10 she finds them infuriating and endearing depending on the dayGrin but over-all they all get on v v well.

Morning sickness was awful and you have my all my symapthySad. I was told it can be particularly bad when expecting twins. Mine lasted until for about 4 mths but then vanished and I felt great. I hope you feel better soon. As you can see we've all had varying degrees of it so everyone's different.

Congratulations and good luckSmile. Accept all/any help offered. Ask for help. Don't try to be supermum and knock yourself out. Take things at your pace and remember to take time out for you. I know this seems impossible but I really think it's important.

I love all my 3 and still can't believe they're ours.

harrygracejessica · 13/03/2012 20:32

Im another with 2 sets so will answer twice :-)

  1. How early were your twins - 33 weeks + 5
  2. How long did they spend in special care - if at all. - 20 days in scbu
  3. How did you give birth to your twins, C-sec, natural, forceps. - c-sec
  4. What type of twins did you have b/g, b/b or g/g. - identical girls (2 sacs, 2 placentas)
  5. How did your older children react to twins - eldest was only 15 months so really knew no difference
And I wasnt sick often with the girls and always craved fish and peas lol (hated them both before pregnancy)

2nd set

  1. 36+5
  2. twin 1 spent no time there but twin 2 was on c-pap for 3 days
  3. c sec
  4. non identical boys
  5. much excitement at more twins, a little bit of jealousy when they arrived but nothing to much was sick from 10-22 weeks every day all day, craved lamb this time lol
twinnies26 · 13/03/2012 22:13

harrygracejessica just wondering do you know what percentage chance there is of having two sets of twins? I'm curious! I have ID girls 6mo now but our family on my mothers side is FULL of fraternal twins there are even a few double sets of twins in some families....curious if this means my chances of having twins next time is higher than the average person?!

claireinmodena · 14/03/2012 13:00

Hi there, congrats on your news!

Mine have also come from mowhere, but I ahve found out that only a minority actually are due to genetics! Risk of having twins apparently increases with maternal age, and no of previous pregnancies. So I scored 2 out of 2there !

1. How early were your twins 37+6 despite having a short cervix since 27 weeks and put on bedrest from that point to 35 wks
2. How long did they spend in special care - if at all. nothing
3. How did you give birth to your twins, C-sec, natural, forceps. c-s becaus of twin a being breech Sad
4. What type of twins did you have b/g, b/b or g/g. b/g
5. How did your older children react to twins. We have bought our dd a lot of Dora the explorer DVDs because Dora has twin b/g siblings. Mine are a lot older : 10 & 7 so no problems at all, dd1 is a huge help, and dd2 is healthily uninterested!
Also I have only just got out of hospital for HG, when did your morning sickness subside. Had lots of nausea but nor proper sickness, and it got better around 14 weeks, sorry can't help. (did have lots of other preganncy related ailments that I did not have previously but I won't bore you with those now!!)

Mandy21 · 14/03/2012 14:08
  1. How early were your twins - 12weeks
  2. How long did they spend in special care - if at all 2 months exactly
  3. How did you give birth to your twins, C-sec, natural, forceps - natural (although Twin 2 was breech)
  4. What type of twins did you have b/g, b/b or g/g - b/g
  5. How did your older children react to twins - they were our first children
harrygracejessica · 14/03/2012 14:10

I would imagine having fraternal twins on your mothers side increases things a fair bit. There are no twins in my family so was a total shocker for us lol

Retsbewdy · 14/03/2012 15:56

twinnies I read up on that, apparently once you've had one set your odds of having another set is 1 in 9!

Chopstheduck · 14/03/2012 16:04

Congrats Grin

  1. 38+5
  2. none
  3. elective c section due to position of babies
  4. B/B
  5. Thought it was all very exciting. Though dd was gutted that neither was a girl. Was a bit hard afterwards since the twins took so much time up.

I had the same craving as singles (mints) but also non stop cravings for fruit and other bits I can't remember. More later on that early days though.

Morning sickness was def worse with two, but subsided around 11 weeks, same as with singles.

Chopstheduck · 14/03/2012 16:06

we had no twins on my side before having these.

dd tho - her dad is a twin, his parents were both twins, and I've had twins - I reckon she is in line for quads Wink

LargeGlassofRed · 14/03/2012 16:18
  1. How early were your twins - induced at 38 weeks.
  2. How long did they spend in special care - not at all born Thursday night, home Friday lunchtime.
  3. How did you give birth to your twins, 2.5 hours both natural twin 2 born in his sack :-)
  4. What type of twins did you have b/g, b/b or g/g. b/g. b/b non I'd
  5. How did your older children react to twins. They were s great and very helpful.
Also I have only just got out of hospital for HG, when did your morning sickness subside. I was very tired and sick until about 14 weeks. I took 50mg of vit b6 daily which really helped. Congratulations :)
