can anyone help re momo twins and twin to twin transfusion?

my friend has just discovered she is having momo identical twins and has found that there is no research other than in america they admit the mother from about 26 weeks.

basically she wants to know everything that she can. she is worried about twin to twin transfusion and cord comression.

I have directed her to tamba but beyond that i don't know what else to do for her

I'm not sure what momo is, but perhaps she could get in touch with Great Ormond Street Hospital? I remember seeing a programme on twin to twin transfusion and they were dealing with it at GOSH. They might be able to suggest where she can go for advice/info if they can't help directly themselves.

BEar in mind that the sites may worry her more though! It's only when the risks etc are explained in person to you that you get the whole picture I think.

Monochorionic twins are scanned more frequently to monitor progress of pregnancy and to watch out for twin-twim transfusion. We do not admit women from 26 weeks as a routine. Monitoring can be done via clinic visits.

I am expecting twins (c section tomorrow!) = they share a placenta but not a sac - I have had scans every 2 weeks since 24 weeks to check for twin to twin transfusion syndrome.
The forums on twinsclub may have more answers - There are people on their whose babies had twin to twin transfusion.

I thought standard advice for momo twins was to C-section 'em out at 34 weeks due to the risks of cords getting tangled up.

go over to the forums on twinsclub.co.uk - there is at least one person there who has momo twins - she had hers without any problems with ttts or chord problems.

Only just found this thread. I found out I was carrying mono-mono twins at my 12 week scan and although I was aware of the risks of twin to twin etc I wasn't given much information about the potential dangers to the babies and didn't let myself look at too many websites on TTTS because I didn't want to scare myself.

I joined TAMBA at around 16 weeks and found it (and still do) a fantastic source of advice, support and friendship.

I think policies on id twins vary from hospital to hospital. I was scanned every 3 weeks from 20 weeks. I was told at 23 weeks that I would be having a c section around 37 weeks, but as my pregnancy progressed without any problems at all, it was clear that both babies were head down and staying that way. My consultant said I could try for a natural birth if I wanted, but in the end for various reasons I went for an elective CS at 37+4. Both babies were absolutely fine - 5lb7 and 5lb12. Neither needed any special care and we were home within 4 days.

If your friend would like any info and positive stories on TTTS, TAMBA is definitely a good source - you don't have to be a member to post a message on the boards there, although you do have to register.
