3 year old and 11 month old twins car seat issues

Hello.

I have a 2007 VW touran and currently manage to just fit in 2 rearward facing car seats (for my 11 month old twins) and a stage 1 Maxi Cosi Priori XP car seat (for my 3 year old) across the backseat. However all of them are getting bigger and I need to swap the twins in to the stage 1 Maxi Cosi Priori XP car seats (thank goodness for having a spare one for my eldest in grandmas car, expensive at the time but a huge money saver now!!) and I need to buy a new stage 2/3 car seat for my 3 year old.

It is going to be a tight squeeze and I am not sure of best configuration, was thinking twins on outside seats and 3 year old in the middle though am worried about buckle crunch having spoken to a couple of retailers, so may put the 3 year old on the nearside and the twins middle and rearside if I can make it work. Don't want to use the front seat as doesn't go far enough back to safe distance to avoid airbag even when it is switched off and I can't use my boot seats as I need the boot for my tank of a double buggy!

Does anyone have VW touran and this configuration of needs and can suggest a good stage 2/3 car seat for me? Ideally I would like a high backed seat that can be removed once my eldest gets to the safe age and weight for just the booster.

Where I live does not have a lot of local retailers that offer car seat fitting and those that do have such a limited selection it is crazy. I want to make sure I make the right choice and would rather do that without driving around most of the county to try out different seats at different shops! I have tried a maxi cosi rodi air protect and it does fit but only in the recline position and this feels like a compromise to me, may be one I have to make but until I can try other options I feel like I have not made the right decision!!

If you don't have a VW touran but have the same needs as us, ie older child and younger twins (or younder children both in stage 1 seats at same time) can you let me know also what you chose (and what kind of car you have, so I can determine how comparable we are!).

Many thanks.

ps this is my first post so apologies if I have put it in the wrong place or have posted on something that has been covered many many times before!!!

i don't have a touran but I do have 3 car seats in the back of my car

we have a volvo v70 and we have ds1 in a high-backed booster, ds2 in a britax 2 way elite and ds3 in a besafe izi combi

it helps that ds2 and ds3 are in extended rear-facing seats as it means there is a gap for ds1's seat to fit into which we wouldn't necessarily get if they were forward facing

i have a couple of pics on my profile

I have a VW Touran and a 3yo plus 17wo twins. dd1 is almost 4 and just gone into the booster seat style. I have isofix for the twins so dd1 has to go in the middle and the seat fits well without any buckle crunch. dd1 had the maxi cosi rodi air protect. However, i'm not sure how easy it would be to do the buckle up with dds old seat on the side!?

I know dds maxi cosi seat (second stage one) fitted in the middle but my friend's maxi cosi Tobi (which was the model up from ours) didn't fit well at all. I would go to halfords and get them to try different combinations.

Hello. Thanks to you both. The maxi cosi rodi air protect does fit well in the middle, but have since discovered that although the maxi cosi XPs stage 1s that I already have fit on the outside seats they have buckle crunch and are not suitable :-( so now on the hunt for alternatives, in fact I have passed the issue on to VW to solve for me!!!! Fingers crossed!

we have 3 in the back, though no twins...had 2 maxi cosi priory and a graco booster with back.i was told under NO CURCUMSTANCES put a high backed booster in the middle as it will fold up and crush child on impact so we had that one side and other 2 next to each other.we have a renault scenic.all now reached the booster stage with eldest now withoutback in the middle.all seats fit.just!hope that helps

Sorry to highjack thread but can I ask

Liveinazoo why were you told a highback
Booster should not go in the middle seat? CuriousasIcang see why would it be different from other seats...

liveinazoo · 08/01/2012 12:57

clairebecause the back isnt solid(i.e it comes off to allow to be just a basic booster) on impact it would fold and crush child
sorry didnt get back to you earlier bin crazy at mine!

claireinmodena · 08/01/2012 13:39

Thanks liveinazoo, but wouldnt that be a problem on the sidea seats as well? Sorry if I am being dumb!

liveinazoo · 08/01/2012 16:42
