Different fluid levels in DCDA twins - anyone experienced this?

I had a follow up scan of my DCDA twins this morning to finish some bits they couldn't do at my anomaly scan last week (am now 22 weeks), and one twin seems to have much less fluid than the other all of a sudden. I haven't noticed any leaking.

I can't work out how concerned the medical staff are. They want to scan me again in 2 weeks time, and the consultant said that because I'm under 24 weeks there is no point in prescribing me steroids etc.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, my twin I had low fluid from about 30w. Switched to weekly scans. It is the case that it can be hard to get an accurate measurement depending on the position of the baby. Just because the two are different isn't such a big deal.. it's whether one drops to a level that causes concern in itself. Having weekly doppler scans on the blood flow etc is reassuring.

In the end I went to 38w, was induced because at the end twin I did stop growing and they said the blood flow was starting to falter a bit.

Thanks for replying DG, were you given any indication of what caused it or what you could do to help it?
I'm just trying to take it a bit easier than normal and drink lots, but not sure what else I can do right now.

I think in extreme cases it can indicate a kidney defect (the fluid is the baby's wee!) If fluid gets very low the baby's lungs will not develop properly

The best they could tell me was that i may have a small leak. How low is the fluid, did they say?

if it was just one time they thought it was low, it may be ok next time, depending on the baby's position. The measurement is not an excat science

Hi Drowned, thanks for that. They did say that the twin had a full bladder, so hopefully that rules out kidney issues. Fingers crossed!

Hopefully next time they measure, it will be OK
